Also known
as kerning, kern is a term used when describing the spacing
in-between letters. For example, in the word "WAV", kern allows for
these letters to bunch together, taking less space. Many advanced
word processors such as Microsoft Word or Open Office Writer support
the ability to adjust the character spacing or kern. For example, to
adjust this in Microsoft Word follow the below steps.
- Open Microsoft Word.
- Highlight the text you wish to
adjust.
- Once highlighted click Format, Font, and click the Character
Spacing tab.
- Within this section you can adjust the scale, spacing,
position, and/or to use kerning on fonts above a specific size.
Note: Not all fonts support kerning and may also not be
supported by your printer.
