Kern

Also known as kerning, kern is a term used when describing the spacing in-between letters. For example, in the word "WAV", kern allows for these letters to bunch together, taking less space. Many advanced word processors such as Microsoft Word or Open Office Writer support the ability to adjust the character spacing or kern. For example, to adjust this in Microsoft Word follow the below steps.
  1. Open Microsoft Word.
  2. Highlight the text you wish to adjust.
  3. Once highlighted click Format, Font, and click the Character Spacing tab.
  4. Within this section you can adjust the scale, spacing, position, and/or to use kerning on fonts above a specific size.

Note: Not all fonts support kerning and may also not be supported by your printer.
