LIEUTENANT'S MESSAGE
For those of you that are dues paying members and read the GAZETTE article regarding insurance, below is an update from Roy Katz the Factor on that issue. For those of you that missed the article, in a nutshell our insurance coverage got canceled. An edict was issued that we do no live fire at ALRA events until further notice.
"The ALRA HAS obtained insurance for 2006 from a new carrier. Bruce McNeal, Mick Askew and I spent a great deal of time, until quite recently, unsuccessfully trying to work with our current insurance provider hence, the Captain's report about insurance in the latest GAZETTE.
The new policy will cover us for general liability and live firing in period attire at our 3 national events (National, Eastern & Western Gatherings) and will provide Certificates of Insurance (C of I) for ALRA members participating in reenactment/living history events sponsored by groups or organizations other than the ALRA. Liability coverage is $1,000,000/$300,000 property damage/$1000 medical expenses.
We could not find ANY carrier that would cover ALRA State Company events. All these carriers advised that the State Companies would need to purchase their own insurance if they sponsored events."
Since this update was issued I have discussed the issue with the Factor. The truth be told we have never had coverage against hurting one another, only hurting members of the public. Since we have few events that there are large numbers of the public present, I will seek to get us covered at those times either through the events insurance or through Certificates of Insurance. -Grant

FEBRUARY MEETING
A trek in the Tintic Mountains (roughly an hour Southwest of Salt Lake City) was discussed at the January meeting. James and Steve will scout it out and report back. An update will be provided in the near future via mail and Internet, or phone regarding this trek. It will likely be later in February and not the usual first weekend.
DUES ARE DUE!
I will be sending dues off to the Factor in batches as I receive them. Dues are $25, $15 for National and $10 for State. Please make checks payable to myself: (I cannot cash checks made out to the ALRA)
My address is:
Grant Davis
1083 N 300 E
Layton, UT 84041
WESTERN GATHERING
A western gathering of the ALRA has been proposed. It is tentatively set for the first weekend in May and will be held at Fort Buenaventura. The western region takes in all the states west of the Mississippi. Gregg Hansen has offered tents for those who fly in. A $10 camp fee was discussed to cover shooting prizes and fire wood. Fort Robinson, NB was mentioned as a possible future site for the event along with a location in California. Several from Missouri have expressed interest in making the trip out to the event.
ELECTIONS
Elections were held for Scribe and Sergeant of Arms. There were no candidates who expressed interest and no nominations from the floor so Steve Gish will remain as Scribe and James Chandler will continue as Sergeant of Arms. Both were thanked by the Lieutenant for their past service.
CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Pat Lakin on obtaining the level of Patriot. Pat is #244. Way to go Pat!
TELEVISION SPECIAL
This is a documentary about the French and Indian War - The War that Made America. It is a two-part program and is scheduled to air on Channel 7 at 8:00 PM on Jan. 18 and Jan. 25. Two hours on the 18th and two hours on the 25th. It has re-enactors (some ALRA) in it and was featured in the Nov./Dec. 2005 Muzzleloader magazine (p. 44). I verified the information with KUED. There is also a companion book. As a "Friend of Fort Ticonderoga," I can save on book orders for anyone interested. This would be a one-time thing. John McCann
