Lieutenant's Message:

I called the Uintah National Forest this last week and there are no fire restrictions in place yet. I will be traveling to our camp spot on Sunday 6/20 to make sure the road is passable, etc. I hope to see many of you there. It should be a good time spent in the woods with friends.

June Camp:

The June meeting will be a camp in the Uinta Mountains east of Heber City. A map to the location is included in the journal. The camp is planned for June 24-27. Please let the Lieutenant know if you are planning on going up on Thursday. This is an ALRA camp and ALRA authenticity rules apply. Your vehicles will be close by, so please leave non-period items in your vehicle. There have been discussions of doing some day scouts, so if you are interested please come prepared to do some hiking. We will have some shooting events as well. As always, these camps are a great place to work on primitive skills and pass off advancement requirements if you are interested. Anyone that has a skill that they would like to demonstrate or help the group learn would be great. If you are interested in doing something like that please contact the Lieutenant.

July 4th:

The ALRA will be marching in the Tooele Parade again this year. Last year we won fifty bucks. Be at the Ward residence at 82 South 100 West in Tooele by 8:00 a.m. in full regalia. Those interested may come prepared to do some static displays and/or demonstrations in the park after the parade. We will try to get a better set-up than we had last year. If you need more specific instructions, contact the Scribe. Breakfast will be provided.

August Meeting:

The August meeting will be a natural dying workshop. Please purchase any fabric that you might want to experiment dying and bring it with you to the meeting. If you have a particular dye that you want to try, please let the Lieutenant know. Men please invite your wives. This may be of interest to them even if they aren't interested in living history.

Linen Source:

We discovered an awesome source for good quality linen this past month. They are a website-based vendor out of California called Fabrics-store.com. We purchased over 25 yards from them last month and have been very pleased with the service and quality. Their Internet address is: www.fabrics-store.com and prices for their linens range from $4.50 to $7.50 per yard. They have natural, bleached, checks, and colors available. -Grant & Kim

For Sale:

Jeff Gerke has decided to leave the reenacting hobby to devote more time to some of his other pursuits. He has his Isaac Haines .54 cal Lancaster built by John McCann up for sale. It was finished just a few months ago and has had about 15 rounds fired through it. It is an early Isaac Haines Lancaster in the John Bivins pattern, it has an exception curly maple stock, 38" swamped .54 caliber barrel (I believe it is a Getz), early two piece brass patch box, brass nose cap, all brass furniture, single trigger, large siler lock, and moderate engraving on the patch box. It also has carving behind the check piece, at the wrist, and on the fore stock. If you would like to see pictures of it, it is on the website under the member crafts section. He will sell it to someone here locally for $1,100 which is a real steal. Also included are a stainless steel cleaning rod with attachments, approx. 50 hand cast round balls, and a couple of flints. If you are interested contact Jeff at jgerke@azteca.com

A message from former Scribe, John McCann:

There is a program airing on PBS Channel 7 in June. It's entitled "Rebels and Redcoats: How Britain Lost America." It's on Wednesdays, June 23 and 30, at 8:00 p.m. To quote from the channel 7 guide: "With vivid dramatizations of battles, eyewitness accounts, original documents and paintings, Rebels and Redcoats: How Britain Lost America tells the story of the American Revolution from an unusual point of view---that of the British. Presented by renowned British military historian Richard Holmes, this four part series airs in two hour segments on Wednesdays June 23 and 30, at 8 p.m. "Rebels and Redcoats focuses on the military struggle--the soldiers, the leaders, the tactics, and the strategy of this grand conflict--but it also explores the painful conflicts within the American people themselves. It tells of the bitter disappointments of the black slaves in the South, who were promised freedom by the British, and takes viewers inside the vicious str
