| Builders Note: This field bed was built with advice and dimensions from ALRA member Milt Moravek, who had one at the Western Nationals two years ago. He wouldn't give me his, so I built one. It is based upon George Washington's oak field bed on display at the New York Historical Society Museum in Manhattan, New York. The cot is made from curly maple, stained and oiled. It lacks the sideboards of the originals, and the camel back head and footboards are fancier than the originals. Fixtures were made by ALRA blacksmith member Tom Muschlitz. The bed is 27" wide and 6' 6" long. The No. 6 canvas duck coverings are tacked to the frames with 160 carpet tacks. | |
