You might try leaving the bark on and dipping the ends in molten wax before
carrying them to NV, allow a year per inch diameter for curing. Even in MO
if you peel the bark too soon the logs will split and crack. Allow an
extra foot on each end for seasoning checks.
The best bow staves are made from logs not saplings where the heartwood is
fully removed and most of the sap wood is as well. A little of the sap
wood left on the face of the bow helps prevent breaking and splintering.
