Herc's living room - bio

Herc received his first tape recorder as a holiday gift in 1964 at the age of 8. By sixth grade he had saved enough for a used Ampex 2000 (vacuum tubes, yay). In the seventies he started 4-tracking his friends on a Tascam Series 70 and a Model 2 mixer. In 1971 he started playing electric guitar, receiving instruction from Bill Woolf and J. D. Moffat. In 1979 he studied electronic music composition under Vladimir Ussachevsky and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in computer science in 1982. From 1982 to 1990 he worked as a programmer on such things as LISP implementations and computer algebra. In the eighties he played in bands such as The Metrognomes, The Zerks and Connie and the Rhythm Method playing in venues such as the now defunct Zephyr Club in Salt Lake and even the Palace in Hollywood, CA. He refused to sign a recording contract offered by MCA in 1985 due to the onerous terms therein. He opened Herc's Living Room in 1991 and moved it to it's present location in 1997. Over the years he has had the pleasure of recording hundreds of fine musicians such as Gabe (The Undisco Kid) Gonzales, Michael (Kidd Funkadelic) Hampton, Gary (Diaperman) Shider, Lige Curry, Ike Willis, Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons, The Fowler Brothers and many local (Salt Lake) luminaries. From 2002 to 2006 He played guitar for J. W. Blackout (hear them on CD Baby) and records a dozen or so albums each year. He is currently playing guitar with Andy Monaco and bass with The Hasbeens.
