MGB HEATER VALVE CONVERSION

This is a conversion i did on a 1978 MGB. The elbow came from an AUSTIN MARINA,but the source has no more used ones in stock..

The actual heater valve itself is from a 1972 FORD TRUCK / VAN. The part number i used in this from a manufacturer entitled FACTORY AIR, and the part number is 74627.

The preformed U shaped hose is from a 1994-1996 FORD TAURUS SHO ( either 3.0 or 3.2 engine) part number was S-4306, or 4306.

The S shaped hose, I could not find out what it went to, but the part numbers are S-3003, or DAYCO number 70459, or GATES number 20521.

I had to use an adaptertween the S hose and the heater core, as the MARINA elbow is a 5/8" pipe, and the hoses, and the valve are all 5/8" also, while the MGB heater core is 1/2".The adapter that I used is from a company entitled MOTORMITE, and that part number is 47081, which adapts the 5/8" hose to the 1/2" hose.

The valve had to be kinda installed backwards, to match the way the MGB cable worked in the ON and OFF position. So far i have not noticed any adverse reactions to this.

I used a wire terminal to connect the MGB heater wire to the heater valve, but i used a ratcheting type of terminal crimper, which, i think, gives a better crimp than the generic crimper you can purchase.

The oil dipstick is a bit tight to remove and view, but the hoses have enough flexability to move out of the way.

So far, i have used this adapation for one month, ( APR-MAY 2001) , and have had no problems with it.
