Location: Summit Area
Rock:

Land Status: BLM.
Directions: Turn east off the "Summit" off ramp of I-15 11 miles north of Cedar City. Turn south on the frontage road along the east side of the highway. At the second, third and/or fourth gate, turn east. Close all gates that you pass through.

Location: Brian Head Area

Land Status: National Forest.
Directions: From the visitor center at Cedar Breaks National Monument, drive north 5.7 miles to a dirt road on the right marked "To Brian Head Peak". About a half mile from the highway this road crosses a creek. Park and search the area to the left along the banks of the creek.

Location: Twisted Forest

Land Status: National Forest.
Directions: From the visitor center at Cedar Breaks National Monument, drive north 7 miles to the Sugarloaf Mountain Road. Follow this for 0.1 mile to a fork and stay to the right. Immediately there will be another fork bear right again. 1.2 miles from the highway is third fork, stay left. At 2.5 miles is another fork, stay left again. At 3.4 miles from the highway is a dirt road going left. This is the road to the Twisted Forest trailhead. Drive up this road and park in the loop. Agate can be found all over the immediate area.

Location: Fiddlers Canyon

Directions: At the intersection of I-15 and Utah highway 130 about 2 miles north of Cedar City, a gravel road leads east into Fiddlers Canyon.

Location: Lund Area

Land Status: BLM.
Directions: Lund is 32 miles northwest of Cedar City. The collecting area is in the NE 1/4, Sec 12, T32S, R15W. No roads. Strenuous hiking required.

Location: Mountain Spring Peak
Minerals:

topaz, quartz, fluorite

Land Status: BLM.
Directions: Drive west from Lund on the Pine Valley road for about 10 miles to Mountain Spring Peak. About a mile past the peak, park and walk 0.5 mile north of th road to a prominent north-south ridge. SW 1/4, NE 1/4, SW 1/4, Sec. 2, T32S, R16W.

Location: Meadow Spring Area

Rock: chalcedony
Land Status: BLM.
Directions: From Mountain Spring Peak (previous entry) drive about 3.5 miles north along the Pine Valley Road to Meadow Spring. Topaz occurs along the road north of there. Search in the light gray rhyolite on the steep hillside adjacent to the road.

Location: Modena Draw

Rock: chalcedony
Land Status: BLM.
Directions: From Modena drive 5.5 miles north. Topaz occurs on a ridge east of the road. Chalcedony is reported to occur in the area 2.5 - 3 miles north of Modena. A side road goes to the west in this vicinity.

Location: Iron Springs District
Minerals:

magnetite, siderite, calcite, apatite, amethyst

Land Status: BLM and private lands.
Directions: Take Utah highway 56 west out of Cedar City. The dumps of the iron mines are clearly visible along Highway 56 and side roads that lead to Iron Springs and Desert Mound. Washes along the road to Desert Mound contain abundant magetite crystals and nodules.

Location: Cedar Canyon
Fossils:

pelecypods (oysters)

Land Status: Highway right-of-way.
Directions: Take Utah highway 14 east out of Cedar City and up Cedar Canyon. The outcrop is located along the road, about 0.6 mil past milepost 10, ater emerging from the narrowest part of the canyon. A side road on the right about 100 feet past the outcrop provides a place to park.
