Location: Amasa Valley
Minerals:

quartz(smokey, amethest), albite, garnet, scheelite

Land Status: BLM and mining claims.
Directions: Amasa Valley is a high hidden valley at the top of Sawtooth Mountain in the House Range. Use a good map to reach the area. 4WD/HCV required.

Location: Antelope Springs
Fossils:

Land Status: BLM and private leases.
Directions: Take U.S 6-50 west out of Delta. Shortly past milepost 58, approxomately 32 miles out of Delta, turn right on a graded gravel road where a sign indicates Long Ridge Reservoir. At about 18.2 miles a road to the right leads to Wheeler Amphitheater. There are many other places in the area to dig fossils including Sponge Gully, Swasey Spring, and the pay site U-Dig fossils.

Location: Black Springs Area

Land Status: BLM and mining claims.
Directions: From the intersection of U.S. 6-50 and Utah highway 257 west of Delta, drive south on 257 about 44 miles and turn east across the railroad track on a dirt road that leads to the Black Spring watering trough. From the spring, the road leading north has many branches to different collecting areas. Note: the spring is used by wild horses as an important water source. Camping and prolonged visitation to the spring itself should be avoided.

Location: Conger Springs

Land Status: BLM.
Directions: At milepost 16 on U.S. 6-50 (about 77 miles west of Delta) turn north on a gravel road twoard Little Valley. Proceed straight at any unmarked intersections. Conger Spring is about 8.7 miles from the highway.

Location: Cowboy Pass
Fossils:

Land Status: BLM.
Directions: Use the directions in the Foote Range entry to reach Cowboy Pass. Take the road leading south on the east end of the pass and travel about 1.2 miles. Walk to the right of the road and across a wash to the collecting site.

Land Status: BLM and mining claims
Directions: Crystal Peak is a prminent landmark along the Garrison-Black Rock road. This road begins at Black Rock on U-257 south of Delta. Other access is from U.S. 6-50 west of Delta.

Location: Foote Range and Indian Pass
Fossils:

Land Status:  
Directions: The Foote Range is a small ridge located 9 miles east of Gandy and about 16 miles north of Conger Spring. The area can be reached by taking U.S. 6-50 west from Delta to near the Nevada border, then north about 31 miles to Gandy and east out of Gandy to the range. It can also be reached from the Antelope Springs area by going through Marjum Pass, and Cowboy Pass in the Confusion Range. After Cowboy pass there is a major fork in the road, the right fork goes north to Gandy.

Location: Ibex-Fossil Mountain
Fossils:

brachiopods, trilobites, echinoderms, cephalopods

Land Status: BLM.
Directions: At the west end of Skull Rock Pass, near milepost 39, approxomately 54 miles west of Delta, turn southwest on the Ibex Well road. The road is washed out and sandy. Continue south past the Ibex Well for 1.2 miles then leave the main graded road to take a lesser road to the southwest. At 2.7 miles you round an orange colored weathering hill with fossil material on its slopes. Continuing west another 3.5 miles takes you to the end of Warm Point where the road divides. Fossil mountain is near the summit, about 1.5 miles northwest of this point.

Directions: This is the road to Amasa Valley mentioned in the Amasa Valley entry.

Location: Painter Spring Area
Minerals:

quartz, garnet, diopside, vesuvianite, chalcopyrite, molybdenite

Land Status: BLM and claims.
Directions: From Delta, go west on U.S. 6-50 about 60 miles and take the gravel road to the right near milepost 33. It should be marked with a sign indicating "Painter Springs". At 9.4 miles an intersection with a water tank is reached. Turn east toward the mountain for 1.8 miles to Painter Spring.

Location: Skull Rock Pass

Land Status: BLM.
Directions: Located on U.S. 6-50 approximately 47 miles west of Delta.

Location: Sunstone Knoll
Minerals:

sunstone (yellow labradorite), aragonite

Land Status: BLM and mining claims.
Directions: Drive west of Delta about 4.5 miles to the junction with Utah 257. Drive south on 257 approximately 13 miles and turn east of fthe road and cross tthe railroad tracks to the small black hill. Crystal fragments are found all around the area.

Location: Tule Valley
Fossils:

brachiopods, trilobites, ostracods

Land Status: BLM.
Directions: Turn north off U.S. 6-50 near milepost 30 and trvel north and northeast about 3.5 miles to an intersection. Turn left and continue northwest about 4 miles. The outcrops are the ledgey slopes below the quartzite cliffs on the east side of the ridge south of the road junction.
