Although the vast majority of Salt Lake County is covered by late
Quaternary urban sprawl deposits, there are still some tremendous collecting
opportunities in the Wasatch Mountains.

| Directions: | Drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon about 9.5 miles and turn right into Mill D or Cardiff Fork. Proceed up the canyon to the parking area. It is about a 2.5 mile hike to the Cardiff Mine. The Baby McKee Mine can be reched by hiking the roads that circle above the Cardiff Mine. |

| Directions: | From the ski area in Brighton take the Brighton Nature trail. Follow the trail alongside the creek until it joins the maintenance road for the ski lift. When the road makes a sharp turn to the left, the trail leaves the road and goes right to an overlook wher the trail divides. Follow the signs and go around the west side of Dog Lake on the old mining road. The first dump has the most magnetite and ludwigite. The second dump has very little but there are several small dumps up the hill from this point with magnetite, copper staining, garnet, etc. |

| Directions: | Park in the U of U Medical Center and hike up the foothils to the gulch which is located above the Medical Center. |

| Directions: | Proceed up the Emigration Canyon Road past Hogle Zoo. At the road cut at the narrow mouth of the canyon, park and look at the rocks of the Jurassic Twin Creeks limestone exposed there. |

| Directions: | At the summit of Emigration Canyon, a paved road with a gate branches off to the right. Walk along this road about 100 yards and look in the outcrops of limestone that occur 10 to 20 feet below the road. |

| Directions: | Park in Alta and walk up the road that begins at the Alta guard station. This road circles around behind the guard station wo the west, then switches back and heads east, gradually climbing the slope toward Grizzly Gulch. The terrain is fairly open and the dumps are easily seen along the hillside. |
