ypified by igneous instrusive rocks along the western edge of the county. Paleozoic and Mesozoic sediments in the east and Cenozoic rocks in the southern half of the county.

Popular Locations

Location: Clayton Peak Area
Minerals:

spinel, garnet, vesuvianite, titanite, scolecite

Land Status: National Forest and private lands.
Directions: Take the Snake Creek Canyon road from Wasatch Mountain State Park. Park at the Forest Service boundry unless you have an HCV. A small road leads around the hill to the right for a short distance to some old mine dumps. The trail continues up the canyon from here.

Location: Guardsman Pass
Minerals:

specular hematite, quartz

Land Status: Highway right-of-way.
Directions: Proceed up Guardsman Pass road from just below Brighton until you reach the parking area at the pass. Examine the road cut and material below the road.

Location: Soldier Summit Area
Minerals:

Ozokerite

Land Status: Private lands
Directions: Ozokerite occurs north of U.S. 6-50 between Soldier Summit and the Hilltop store 7 miles to the east.
