Mountain Biking
Lhasa to Kathmandu

In the fall of 1999 our group of six mountain bikers rode the Friendship Highway from Lhasa to Kathmandu, plus a four day side-trip to Everest base camp. The ride took three weeks, departing Lhasa on September 28 and arriving in Kathmandu on October 18. We used a support vehicle hired in Lhasa to carry our gear. Three of the riders biked the full route (excluding the side trip to Everest Base Camp). The only casualty was the frame of a new full-suspension Kona mountain bike.

As you can see from the following pictures, the scenery was spectacular. This is a wonderful trip for those who favor adventure and great scenery over creature comforts.

The purpose of this web site is to share our experience with other travelers and to show a few pictures to friends and family.
