Once Upon A Dream

By Kristina A. Schwartz

Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Adam Newman, Megabyte Damon, or Ami Jackson. They belong to Roger Damon Price and Thames Television. I do not own the characters Daniel Jackson, Teal'c, Samantha Carter, Jack O'Neill, General Hammond, Dr. Fraiser, or the Goa'oulds. They belong to the creators of Stargate. Likewise, the characters of Sadie, Martin, Tara, and Karyn Newman belong to Michele Bumbarger (thanks so much!). I am merely using them for the sole purpose of providing my readers with fun, enjoyment, and maybe some amusement. However, the characters of Tamara Jackson and Elizabeth Schreier are mine and hopefully will be appearing in more fan fiction. In case you weren't sure, this is a crossover between the Tomorrow People and Stargate SG-1. If there is something that you don't understand about the SG-1 part, please e-mail me at Ibonek17@hotmail.com. Or just e-mail me to let me know if you like my story. This is my first attempt at fan fiction, so bear with me.

And now, the moment you have all been waiting for. May I proudly present:

Tamara Jackson stood on top of the Cheyenne Mountain complex and stared up at the night sky. The warm summer breeze blew her long sandy blond hair around her face. She closed her eyes and let the stillness calm her. Suddenly she heard a noise from behind her. Looking back over her shoulder, she saw a tall figure walking toward her. His sandy blond hair was in need of a haircut, with fringe hanging in his eyes. He adjusted the eyeglasses he wore with one hand as he came to a stop beside her. He was dressed in fatigue pants and a black t-shirt. His blue eyes met Tamara's own blue-eyed gaze and he smiled softly.

"Hello." he said.

"Hi." Tamara said quietly. He shoved his hands in his pockets.

"What are you doing out here?" Daniel Jackson asked his only child. Tamara sighed as she resumed her study of the stars. Daniel furrowed his brow in confusion. Although he had been a parent for seventeen years, he was unsure what to do. He still had no idea what he was doing.

He had been sixteen when he had met the beautiful Elizabeth Schreier. She had gone to his school, yet he had never noticed her until one day when they bumped into each other in the hall. As soon as their gazes had locked, Daniel had been mesmerized. They had started dating and, before either of them knew it, Elizabeth was pregnant. After Daniel turned seventeen and graduated, the two were wed and the baby born that summer. Daniel had attended college to earn a degree in archaeology, as had Elizabeth. But trials and tribulations proved too much for the young couple. They could not pursue their careers and raise a child at the same time. Arguments ensued and the two spent many a lonely night. Daniel buried himself in his work, and eventually Elizabeth asked for a divorce. Katherine Langford, who happened to be Elizabeth's aunt, had given Daniel a job. She was the founder of the Stargate program and managed to finagle her niece a position on the SGC team SG-1, of which Daniel was a member. Tamara and Elizabeth had come to Cheyenne Mountain a year ago. And what a long year it had been.

Daniel returned his thoughts to the present and regarded his daughter. "Tamara, what's wrong?" He laid a comforting hand on her shoulder. Tamara turned to look at him, and Daniel marveled yet again at how much she resembled him.

"I had that dream again, Daddy." Tamara said, a note of seriousness in her voice. Her expression darkened. "The one where you and I die." Daniel nodded slowly. He knew to what she referred.

"What exactly do you dream?" Daniel asked curiously. Instantly he regretted the question. He knew the dream terrified her. He had awoken on more than one occasion to the sound of Tamara's screams.

"I see you and me, on another planet. All of SG-1 is there--Mom, Jack, Sam, Teal'c. And Gao'oulds. They're attacking us. Horus and Serpent guards. We-" Tamara's voice faltered. "A staff weapon hits you. . .here." Tamara's hand went to her chest. Tears welled up in her eyes and Daniel gave her a hug. "I just disappear. . .in a white flash of light. Then I see him."

"Him?"

"A boy. With long brown hair and chocolate eyes. I feel. . .like I know him from somewhere. Like we're connected." Tamara shook her head and hugged her arms around her body. "That's the only time I feel peace. I feel safe. He takes me in his arms and a wave of peace just. . .washes over me. I don't know what it means, Dad." Daniel hugged her closer to him.

"It's just a dream, TJ." he said, calling her by her childhood nickname. He kissed the top of her head. "Just a dream."

******

Adam Newman awoke suddenly, breathing quickly. Sweat rolled down his face. His body was tense from the dream he was still experiencing. In it, weird people with glowing eyes were chasing him.

Adam sighed as he swung his legs off the futon mattress he slept on in the hold of the Ship. He ran a hand through his disheveled shoulder-length brown hair and pulled on a pair of jeans. His mind still contemplated the dream. The only time he had felt peace was when he had held a young girl in his arms. The people with the glowing eyes had chased her as well. She had been beautiful, with sandy blond hair and blue eyes. He had felt drawn to her. He shook his head to clear it.

"It was just a dream, Adam." he told himself in an Australian accent. Somehow he doubted the words even as he spoke them.

******

"Tamara had that dream last night." Daniel said to his ex-wife. He and Elizabeth walked down the hall, heading to the debriefing room. Elizabeth's piercing jade eyes met his blue ones and she pushed a lock of hair the color of fire out of her eyes.

"Is she okay?"

"For now." Elizabeth watched him out of the corner of her eye.

"It worries you."

"If someone saw you dying, wouldn't you be worried?"

"No. Everyone dies some time."

"I'd rather not know when it's my time." Daniel said sarcastically.

"Daniel, it's just a dream."

"How can you be so sure? People have dreamed things and they came true."

Elizabeth rolled her eyes and sighed. "For starters, how would Tamara get on another planet?"

"Good point. What about me?"

"Daniel, she said there were Horus and Serpent guards after us, right?"

"Yes."

"There you go. Think about it. Horus and Serpent guards, working together? Too weird."

"If you say so." Daniel sounded unconvinced.

******

Tamara sat in her room, lounging on her bed. The presence of the boy still lingered in her mind.

Why can't I stop thinking about you?

******

Why can't I stop thinking about you? The thought appeared in Adam's mind. For a second, he thought it belonged to him. He furrowed his brow in puzzlement as he realized it wasn't.

{Who's there? Megabyte?}

Tamara sat up on her bed as a foreign thought appeared in her mind.

{Who's there? Megabyte?} The mental voice had an Australian lilt to it and Tamara gasped in astonishment.

{Who are you?} The words reverberated off her mind.

"Hello, Tamara." said a voice, breaking into her revere. Tamara focused on the face of Samantha Carter, the foreign contact slipping out of her mind.

"Hi, Sam." Tamara tried to hide her disappointment.

"How are you doing?" Sam was a tall woman, with short blond hair and blue eyes. She had attended college with Elizabeth, and had been her roommate. She was a member of SG-1, like Daniel.

"I'm okay."

"Daniel tells me you had that dream again."

"Yeah. It's got me a little worried. And. . ." Tamara's voice trailed off. "I've had another reoccurring dream. I see a young boy, maybe a little older than me. He takes me in his arms and I feel peace. I feel drawn to him. I've had other dreams about him. We've kissed and, well. . .much more. But I feel like I know him. I think I'd remember meeting a guy with an Australian accent."

"Tamara, I don't know what to say."

"That's okay. I don't know what to do. It's just so frustrating."

******

"It's just so frustrating." Adam said aloud to the Ship. The Ship made an "aahh" sound. Adam had pulled on a large white t-shirt and pulled his hair back and fastened it at the nape of his neck with a silver clip.

"What's so frustrating?" said a voice behind him. Adam turned to see Megabyte Damon. Megabyte's freckled face smiled at Adam, his blue eyes filled with curiosity. His short hair was a fiery red.

"Just a dream I've been having." Adam dismissed it with a wave of his hand.

"Right. Well, Ami and I are going to the movies. Wanna come?" Adam shrugged.

"Yeah, sure."

******

Tamara was sitting on her bed, chewing at her lip, when she saw her father walk past her bedroom. He was suited up for a mission.

"Hey, baby." he said as he stuck his head into her room.

"Hi, Daddy. Another mission?" she said.

"Yeah. PX2-879. Another set of coordinates from the Abydos cartouche. Not sure what we'll find. Looks to be nothing more than a jungle." Daniel said. He glanced at his watch and missed the look of astonishment that etched itself on his daughter's face. "I got to go. It's almost time. I'll see you when I get back, okay?"

"All right, Dad." Tamara watched her father go. She gave him to the count of ten, then followed after him. PX2-879 was the planet from her dream. She wasn't sure how she knew, but it was gut feeling. And her mother had always told her to trust in her gut feelings.

How am I going to get through the Stargate? General Hammond will never let me through willingly. Tamara thought. She shrugged. There's got to be a way.

******

Elizabeth Schreier was coming out of her quarters when she spied her daughter shadowing Daniel, who didn't notice her.

"Tamara, what are you doing?" Elizabeth asked. Tamara stopped in the middle of the corridor and turned to face her mother.

"Um, going to the. . .bathroom." Elizabeth raised an eyebrow in disbelief. Daniel walked up behind his daughter.

"Why are you headed toward the Gate Room?" Elizabeth asked. "There's a bathroom right across from your quarters."

"Oh, well, um, it was full. I just thought I'd use the one by the Gate Room." Tamara said.

"Right." Elizabeth said.

"Come on, Lizzy. We're going to be late. You know how much Jack hates that." Daniel said.

"Coming. Stay out of trouble, Tamara."

"That's my middle name, Mom."

"Trouble? I'd believe it."

"Very funny, Mom." Tamara brushed past her mother and disappeared into the restroom. She did a silent count to twenty, then eased the door open and looked out in the corridor. Seeing no one, she snuck down to the Gate Room.

******

Adam sat in the darkened movie theater, his mind definitely not on the movie. He was trying to make contact with the person whose mind he had touched.

{Hey, are you there?} he telepathed.

{Adam, who are you talking to?} Ami telepathed.

{No one. Just. . .somebody I heard this morning. I was trying to see if I could contact them.}

{Hey, I'm trying to watch the movie here.} Megabyte interrupted. {It's hard to concentrate with all this telepathic interference in the air.} Adam and Ami exchanged smiles.

{Sorry, Megabyte.} Adam 'pathed.

{Tune us out, Megabyte.} Ami pathed.

{No, it's okay. We'll talk later, Ami.}

{Well, if you're sure.}

{Yeah. I'm sure.}

******

"It's about time." Jack O'Neill said as Daniel and Elizabeth entered the Gate Room. "We were about to start the party without you. And I know how much Elizabeth would hate to miss meeting Tarzan."

"Very funny, Jack. There's more to this planet than just a jungle." Daniel said.

"Sure, Danny boy. Sure." Jack said. Teal', the final member of SG-1, raised an eyebrow in puzzlement.

"I must ask, who is this Tarzan?" he said.

"Never mind, Teal'c. I'll explain it when we get back." Jack said. Unbeknownst to the SG-1 team, Tamara peeked into the Gate Room. Up in the observation room, everyone's attention was focused on their separate tasks. She breathed a sigh of relief and slipped into the room. She ran over behind the Stargate and knelt behind it.

Now all I have to do is wait until they open the Gate, then when all of SG-1 is through, I'll just jump over the ramp and dive through. Maybe I should do that as soon as they open the gate. Hmm, something to think about.

Suddenly there was no more time to think as the coordinates of PX2-879 were entered in the computer and the gate appeared. Tamara bit her lower lip and looked up to see SG-1 still standing at the end of the ramp. She took a deep breath, then surged to her feet. Before anyone could react, Tamara had bounded over the ramp and dived head-first into the gate.

"Tamara!" Elizabeth cried. Jack's expression became incredulous as Elizabeth ran to the gate.

"Get that girl back here!" Hammond cried. On the other side of the gate, Tamara looked around the new planet, taking in the jungle setting. She threw a glance back over her shoulder as she heard her name shouted.

"Uh oh." She quickly ducked into the foliage and crouched down.

"Looks like Earth." Daniel said.

"You could say that again." Sam said.

"Where the hell is Tamara?" Elizabeth said.

"As soon as we find that child, she is going back through the gate. Somehow I knew she was going to be trouble." Jack said.

"She's not trouble, Jack." Daniel said. "She's just-" Jack pointed the tip of his gun at Daniel.

"Don't say anything. This is your fault."

"My fault?" Daniel asked incredulously.

"Yes. She's your daughter."

"Well, she's Elizabeth's child too. I don't hear you yelling at her." Daniel protested.

"She's attempting to find your daughter." Jack said. Teal'c stood beside a clump of trees. He gazed downward.

"Teal'c! Go away!" Tamara whispered. Teal'c raised an eyebrow upward.

"O'Neill, I believe I have found young Tamara."

"No, Teal'c!" Tamara hissed. Jack walked over to the clump of trees.

"Let's go, kiddo. You're caught." he said. Tamara climbed out of the trees, grumbling.

"Thanks a lot, Teal'c." she grumbled.

"You are welcome, TamaraJackson." Teal'c said, not quite catching the sarcasm. Tamara glared at the Jaffa. Her mother stood behind Jack, her arms crossed over her chest.

"Just what did you think you were doing?" she said.

"Mom-" Tamara began, only to be interrupted by Jack.

"You can dish out punishment later. Miss Jackson is going back to Earth." Jack said.

"Jack, please don't send me back." Tamara said.

"Nope, kiddo. You are going back." Jack said. Tamara turned to her mother.

"You're going back." Elizabeth said. Tamara sighed and looked at the three remaining SG-1 members. Her face lit up as he gaze came to rest on her unsuspecting father, who was busy looking around.

"Daddy, you're my last hope!" Tamara ran over to her father and took his arm in hers. "Dad, you have to convince Mom and Jack to let me stay here." Daniel looked up, a startled expression on his face.

"Um, no." he said finally. "Jack and Liz are right. This is too dangerous."

Tamara's expression became one of anger and she released her father's arm. "Dad, you don't understand. None of you understand."

"What don't we understand?" Daniel asked, his expression softening.

"Daniel, don't." Elizabeth cautioned.

"What?" Daniel asked innocently.

"She's going to concoct some story that'll put on your heartstrings and she'll wrap you around her little finger." Elizabeth said. "She's going back and that's final!"

"Mom, please!"

"Tamara, for the last time, no!" Elizabeth cried. Tamara shook her head.

"You don't understand, Mom. You know how the Egyptians believed in Fate and Destiny? Well, it's my destiny to be here. I don't know how or why, but this is the planet from my dream." As soon as the words were out of her mouth, Daniel gasped and Elizabeth's mouth dropped open. Jack began to laugh.

"That's funny, kiddo. But you're still going back."

"Wait!" Daniel cried. Jack turned to him, an irritated expression on his face.

"Now what? I already decided that she has to go back."

"Tamara, you've got to go back.." Elizabeth said quietly. Tamara turned to her mother, a surprised look on her face. Tamara shook her head.

"No. Don't you understand? I can't go back. This is where I need to be. I need to find out what my dream means. And if you won't help me, I'll do it myself." Tamara turned and ran into the dense foliage.

"Tamara!" Daniel cried. He spun around to face Jack and Elizabeth, anger flashing in his eyes. "Good show, guys. Now instead of Tamara being here with us, where we can protect her, she's out there, alone. No weapons, not a thing. What happens if there are Goa'oulds here?"

"We've got to find her." Elizabeth said. Jack scowled.

"Let's split up. Daniel, you and Sam go east. Elizabeth and Teal'c, go west. I'll head north. You hear anything, contact me on the radio." Jack said.

"All right." Sam said. Everyone split up and went their separate ways.

******

"This is just great. Instead of concentrating on our mission, we're looking for a stubborn teenager who's going to get herself killed." Jack grumbled. Suddenly the radio in his breast pocket began squawking. He pulled it out and held it up to his mouth.

"Talk to me." he said.

"O'Neill, we have found her." Teal'c's voice sounded tinny.

"Where?"

"Overlooking a valley about two miles west of the Stargate."

"Great. Tell Daniel and Carter to meet you there. I'm on my way."

Ten minutes later, Jack came through the brush to see Tamara and Elizabeth standing off to one side.

"What the hell did you think you were doing?" Elizabeth was saying.

"I told you, trying to decipher my dream. By the way, the ante has been raised."

"What are you talking about?" Jack said, the hairs on the back of his neck rising.

"She is talking about this." said Teal'c. He was crotched by a leafy bush overlooking a valley. Jack knelt beside him.

"Oh, damn."

"What is it, Colonel?" Sam asked as she and Daniel stepped out of the jungle.

"Goa'oulds." Tamara whispered. Daniel turned to her, a look of concern on his face. Sam and Elizabeth knelt behind Jack and Teal'c.

"What do we do?" Elizabeth asked.

"For now, we observe. See if we can find out what they're up to." Jack fished a pair of binoculars out of his back. Down in the valley, there was a large group of Serpent guards looming over prisoners. The prisoners were going in and out of a cave.

"Naquadah. They're mining it." Tamara said quietly. Jack turned to her.

"You okay, kid?" he asked. She was rubbing her upper arms.

"This is just like in my dream. We came here and the Goa'oulds thought we were trying to steal their naquadah. Except there were Horus guards too."

"There you go. You don't need to worry. No Horus guards down there." Jack said to Tamara.

"Correction, O'Neill. Four Horus guards just emerged from the cave." Teal'c said.

"Thanks for telling us, Teal'." Jack glared at the Jaffa.

"You're welcome, O'Neill."

"You were saying something about not worrying?" Tamara said to Jack.

"Oops. Looks like I spoke too soon."

"I'd say." Elizabeth said. "Now what?"

"All I see are guards." Daniel said.

"We need to get out of here." Tamara said, growing nervous.

"Calm down, TJ." Jack said.

"I'm serious, Jack. One of the scouts-" Tamara broke off as she heard an electronic whining. Looking behind her, she saw Teal'c with a zat gun pointed at a Serpent guard lying on the ground. With two blasts from the weapon, the guard's body was vaporized.

"That takes care of that." Jack said, smiling.

"Yeah, until the next one comes." Tamara grumbled. Teal'c appeared out of the brush, his face devoid of emotion.

"There appears to be a Jaffa team headed this way. I counted five of them."

"Great." Jack said. "Okay, team, pack up. We're going on a little field trip." Jack slung his pack on his back and began walking toward the gate. Suddenly the forest was alive with staff weapon blasts. The members of SG-1 dove behind trees, outcroppings, whatever could shield them from the blasts and returned fire. Tamara bit her lip and watched. Suddenly Daniel tossed her his hand pistol.

"Here!" he said. He pulled out another gun and began firing. Tamara raised her gun, yet her aim wavered every time she tried to focus it on a Goa'ould. The gun quivered in her hand and she slowly lowered her arm.

"Tamara, what are you doing?" Sam cried. Tamara shook her head furiously.

"I can't, Sam! I can't kill them!" Why is this happening to me? Tamara glanced over at her father and saw a Goa'ould draw a beat on Daniel. Without thinking, Tamara jumped at him just as the Goa'ould fired. She slammed into Daniel, knocking him out of the way. Suddenly her side felt like it was on fire.

"Tamara, NO!" Daniel cried.

******

Seated between Megabyte and Ami, Adam suddenly cried out in pain and clutched his side. Ami and Megabyte turned to him, concern on their faces.

"Come on." he said. As he stood up, his knees buckled. Ami and Megabyte each grabbed one of his arms and pulled him back to his feet. They helped him outside of the theater.

"What's up, Adam?" Megabyte asked as soon as they got outside.

"Another Tomorrow Person. I think one's going to break out."

******

Tamara felt a searing pain in her side. Dimly she heard her father screaming her name. She couldn't move, much less respond. Suddenly she felt an electronic crackling course over her body. With the sound of imploding air and a flash of white light, she suddenly disappeared.

******

"There!" Adam pointed out to sea. The three Tomorrow People stood on the shores of Tapahini. Adam teleported into the water and began searching. A young girl was sinking to the bottom. Her sandy blond hair billowed out around her. He reached out with his hand, drawing her near to him, one arm snaking around her waist. In doing so, his hand collided with a wound on her side. She reflexively gasped, taking in water. Adam hurriedly rose to the surface, dragging the girl with him. He pulled her to the shore and laid her out on the sand.

"She's not breathing, Adam." Megabyte said.

"What happened to her?" Ami asked. The wound was of a strange nature, unlike anything they'd ever seen.

"I don't know." Adam shook his head. He bent her head back, pinched her nose, and put his mouth to hers, breathing into her lungs. She suddenly began to cough and Adam gently turned her on her side so she could cough up the water. Adam accidentally brushed his hand across her wound and a soft glow appeared. Ami seemed surprised.

"Adam, your healing powers! They're back!"

"Yeah." Adam nodded. The wound began to scab over and the glow diminished as Adam fell back. He gazed at the girl and was startled to realize she was the girl from his dream.

"What is it, Adam?" Ami asked.

"I know her! She's the girl from my dream!"

******

Tamara awoke slowly. The searing pain was gone. Slowly she opened one eye and looked around. She saw a young redheaded boy and a dark-skinned girl. Then she noticed the dark-haired boy and recognized him. She heard his voice.

"I know her! She's the girl from my dream!" Tamara opened her eyes fully to see the boy smile at her.

"Hello." the red-haired boy said.

"Hello, Megabyte." Tamara said automatically. "Wait. How did I know that? Where am I?"

"A little island called Tapahini, in the South Pacific. Everything's a little hard to explain, but in time, you'll understand." said the dark-skinned girl.

"Okay, Ami." Tamara turned to her dream boy. "And you're Adam Newman."

"Yeah. You're Tamara Jackson."

"Right. Now how do I know all this and why am I w-" Tamara stopped as she realized something. "Wait. You said Tapahini, in the South Pacific?"

"That's right." Ami said.

"Then I'm back on Earth? But how?" Tamara got to her feet and began to pace.

"What do you mean, back on Earth?" Adam asked.

"It's a little hard to explain."

"Well, maybe we should tell you about the Tomorrow People. It's a secret, so keep it to yourself. Then you can tell us your secret." Megabyte said.

"Tomorrow People? What's that?"

"An exclusive group you just joined. The way you got here was teleporting." Ami said.

"Teleporting, like in 'Star Trek'?" Tamara asked.

"Yes, except we do it naturally. There's more. Since this is your first time teleporting, I'll help you." Adam took her hand in his and together the four teleported to the hold of the Ship.

"Where are we?"

"This is the Ship. It's a beacon that calls to Tomorrow People. Until you learn to teleport, you'll keep ending up in the sea. We each have our own abilities. Megabyte is good with electronics. I can heal. Ami is strong with telekinesis."

"You healed my side?"

{Yeah. That was a nasty wound. What happened?}

"How did you-" Tamara was interrupted by Adam placing his finger to her lips.

{We're telepathic. No, don't talk. Use your mind.} His chocolate eyes bore into her blue eyes.

{After a while, telepathing will be second nature to you.} Megabyte telepathed.

{I'll teach you how to shield your private thoughts.} Adam 'pathed.

{Um. . .okay.} Tamara gasped as she formed the words. Adam, Ami, and Megabyte smiled. {Wow! Wait until I tell my dad!} Tamara's expression darkened. {How do I get back to where I was?}

{Maybe I should help you since you're new at this. Just think of where you are and where you want to go. Concentrate until the two become one.} Adam once again took Tamara's hand. Tamara swallowed nervously and suddenly they were on PX2-879. Adam looked around.

"Where are we?"

"Another planet called PX2-879." Adam's mouth dropped open.

"Another planet? How?"

"There's a device called the Stargate. It's an interplanetary traveling device. I'm a member of SG-1, a reconnaissance team. We defend Earth against the Goa'oulds, which are alien creatures that take human hosts. Their eyes glow."

"Just like in my dream." Tamara stopped and looked at him. "I saw you in my dream."

{Then we must've had the same dream. It's strange, but I feel as if I know you.} Their eyes met and something neither of them could explain passed between them.

{We met once upon a dream.} Tamara smiled. She began to look around, searching for the rest of SG-1.

"You know, you could use your telepathic powers to search for the rest of SG-1." Adam said.

"Oh." Tamara was silent for a moment, then shook her head. "They must have returned to Earth. I don't sense them. Damn, and I don't have a remote transmitter. Without it, the iris won't open."

"We can teleport there." Adam suggested.

"Great idea." They teleported into the Gate Room. An alarm began to sound.

"Great. Now we're going to be overrun by armed troops. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to teleport into the Gate Room."

"You gotta tell your parents some time. Just try to keep those who know down to a minimum."

"Okay. All I'll tell are my parents, Jack, Sam, Teal'q, and General Hammond. Oh, and Dr. Fraiser too."

"Um, okay." Suddenly they were surrounded by men in fatigue uniforms, their rifles pointed at the two teens. Tamara slowly raised her hands to the back of her head. Adam hesitated, then followed suit.

"It's okay. It's me, Tamara Jackson." she said.

"Tamara!" Daniel cried. He ran to her and hugged her tightly.

"Hi Dad." Tamara said.

"What the hell happened to you? One second, we're in the middle of a firefight. You get shot, then you just disappear in a white light. You scared the hell out of your mom and me." Daniel said. His eyes glimmered with tears. "I was so afraid you'd been killed."

"Dad, it's a long story. Could you let me go? I can't breathe."

"Oh, of course." Daniel said sheepishly. "It's just I was so worried about you."

"I'm fine Dad." Tamara saw her father glance at Adam. "Dad, this is Adam Newman. Adam, this is my dad, Doctor Daniel Jackson."

"Nice to meet you." Adam said. Daniel narrowed his eyes.

"Who are you and how did you get here?" Adam and Tamara exchanged glances.

"Why don't we go to the debriefing room and I'll explain everything all at once. It's a doozy of a story."

******

Half an hour later, Tamara and Adam finished explaining to the members of SG-1 what happened. Adam explained what the Tomorrow People were. General Hammond sat with a look of disbelief on his face. Daniel was astonished.

"You mean to tell me my daughter has superpowers?"

"Yes, and Tomorrow People have been around for a long time. The Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamen was a Tomorrow Person." Adam said.

"Amazing." Daniel said. "But that still doesn't explain Tamara's wound. I saw her get shot by a staff weapon."

"I healed her." Adam said.

"You healed her? How?" Sam asked.

"All of the Tomorrow People have their own special powers. I mean, each of us are telepathic and can teleport, but in addition, we have one power that no one else has. One of us has strong TK, another is empathic, one is good with electronics, and I can heal."

"TK?" Jack asked.

"Telekinesis." Adam said.

"The ability to move things with one's mind." Sam explained.

"Oh. I knew that." Jack said.

"Why didn't you kill that Goa'ould, Tamara? You had him right in your sights." Elizabeth asked quietly.

"I-I couldn't." Tamara looked helplessly at Adam, who stepped forward.

"Tomorrow People have an instinct against killing. We can't."

"Well, if you save the world, how do you defend yourself?" Sam asked. "Any way we can, without killing. We occasionally fight with our hands and fists. One of the Tomorrow People, Rocky, knows karate and martial arts. He's teaching us. We're not defenseless. Plus we work with a group called WorldEx. They take care of most of the fighting."

"So you can teleport?" Daniel asked.

"Yes. Although I didn't know we could go to other planets."

"You didn't even know there were other planets that were inhabited." Tamara reminded him. Adam smiled.

"Okay. You've been talking about teleportation and mumbo jumbo for half an hour. What exactly is teleportation?" Jack asked.

"This." Adam fizzled out in a staticy white light and rush of imploding air. He reappeared on the other side of the room. Jack's eyes widened.

"And you have special gifts?" Dr. Fraiser asked. She had been standing behind Hammond quietly.

"Yes. Like I said, I can heal. Not sure what Tamara's special talent is."

"She can talk to animals." Elizabeth said quietly. Adam looked at her in surprise.

"Really?" He directed this comment to Tamara, who blushed.

"I guess so." She shrugged. "See, my grandfather used to have this really wild horse. He wouldn't let anyone near him or anything."

"One day he was in the middle of a bad fit." Elizabeth picked up the story. "Mark, one of the hired hands, was trying to saddle him. Tamara just walked right up to the horse and put her hand on his fur coat. He instantly calmed down. Mark was able to put the saddle on him, but he'd only let Tamara ride him."

"Impressive. We'll have to check that out." Adam said.

"Could you provide us with a demonstration of your healing skills? I have a lieutenant who has a gash on her arm. I'm afraid it's going to get infected, even though I've given her antibiotics." Dr. Fraiser said.

"Okay." Adam nodded. Dr. Fraiser led him to the sickbay, where a young woman sat on a bed. An intern was looking at her arm, where a deep gash ran down it. Adam stepped up to her and put his hand on her arm. A soft glow immediately appeared and he closed his eyes. The lieutenant watched, astonishment etched on her face, as the wound began to heal. When it had turned pink, Adam sighed and sank to his knees. The glow disappeared. Tamara knelt beside him.

{Adam?}

"I'm fine." he mumbled. "That just weakens me momentarily. I'll be okay."

"Impressive. Fully healed." Dr. Fraiser said.

"Wow." Jack commented.

{Hey, Adam, what's up?} Megabyte's mental voice rang through Adam and Tamara's minds.

{Nothing. We're just explaining to Tamara's family about what happened to her.} Adam 'pathed.

{Sounds exciting.} Megabyte's mental voice was filled with sarcasm.

"Um, if it's all right with you, I still have a lot to tell Tamara. We have to go." Adam said. General Hammond nodded.

"Mom, Dad, I'll be back." Tamara said.

"Wait, where are you going?" Daniel asked. Tamara turned to Adam, who shrugged.

"To a little island called Tapahini. Don't worry, Dad, I'll be fine." Elizabeth hugged her.

"Be careful."

"That's me." Tamara waved and then she and Adam teleported to the hold of the Ship. They were alone in close quarters. Tamara felt more drawn to Adam than ever before. She looked at him and was startled by the presence of his mouth against hers.

{I'm sorry.} he 'pathed when the kiss ended.

{For what?}

{For kissing you. I shouldn't have done that. I just. . .I feel as if I know you. As if we've met, somewhere other than the night, other than our dreams.}

{You feel it too?}

{Yes.}

{Maybe it's Fate. The ancient Egyptians believed destiny brought people together. Maybe destiny's at work here.} Their eyes met and once again the unnamable feeling passed over them.

{Maybe.}

"So, do you have a family?" Tamara asked, moving away from Adam. She noticed his expression darken.

Should I tell her? Adam thought. I mean, I feel so drawn to her. I want to know her, all of her. I want her to know me. But. . .by telling her about my family, I'm letting someone in. I'm letting her see me, the real me, that no one, not even Megabyte, has ever seen.

"Yes, I have a family." Adam said quietly, more quietly than he meant. He dove quickly into the issue, lest he lose his nerve. "My mother, Sadie, was a drunk. She died in a car accident two years ago. My dad, Martin, is a controlling son of a bitch who likes to play mind games. All he cares about is money. I have two sisters and a brother. Karyn is my eldest sister. She's twenty-four, four years older than I am. She's now Karyn Cummings, with a little girl. My other sister, Tara, was two years older than me."

"Was?" Tamara asked.

"Yeah, she. . ." Adam's voice failed him as a lump formed in his throat. Tamara took his hand in hers. "She killed herself when she was eighteen."

"Why?" Tamara asked. She laid a comforting hand on his back. Adam felt the lump in his throat and was thankful for telepathy.

{Because of Martin. She lived in his shadow for too long. She had to escape. I. . .I found her.} Tamara gasped as she tried to imagine what that could do to a person.

{Why are you telling all this? I know it must hurt.}

{Like I said, I feel connected to you. Like we belong together. I want to know you, heart and soul, and I want you to know me in the same way. Telling you about Tara is the first step. I've never told anyone about her.} Tamara surprised both of them by kissing Adam. She brought her hand up to his neck, undoing the silver clip and letting it fall to the ground. She ran her hands through his hair, loosening it. Adam placed his hands on her back and pulled her closer to him as her lips parted in invitation. His tongue found its way into her mouth and teased the inside. No part of her mouth lay untouched.

Suddenly the sound of imploding air forced them to break apart.

{Damn!} Adam telepathed, running a hand through his hair. Megabyte appeared in the room. Immediately he noticed how close Adam and Tamara were. Tamara was flushed and Megabyte saw that Adam's hair was free of its clip.

"Am I interrupting something?" he asked.

"No." That one word dripped with sarcasm as Adam's expression said the opposite.

"Impeccable timing, Megabyte." Tamara said, a little of the red disappearing from her cheeks.

"I just came to check up on our newest TP. See how she's doing."

"I'm fine, Megabyte. Adam was just about to show me some things about the TP."

"Right." There was a mischievous twinkle in Megabyte's eyes as he said this. "Did he tell you the Ship talks?"

"I was getting to that. We figured out her special power."

"Really?"

"Yeah. She can talk to animals." Adam said. Tamara looked at Megabyte.

I wish he hadn't appeared. I wish there was a way I could make Adam and me disappear so Megabyte couldn't see us. Tamara thought. She smiled. Yeah, that would be cool. Make Megabyte think there was no one here but him. Then Adam and I could continue where we left off. Suddenly Tamara's thoughts were interrupted.

"Hey, Adam, Tamara, where'd you guys go?" Tamara looked at Megabyte, startled. Adam stared at him, an expression of puzzlement on his face.

"Megabyte, what are you talking about? We're right here." he said.

"Adam, man, where are you? You didn't teleport out of here, so where'd you go?" Megabyte said. Tamara suddenly began to laugh. Adam glanced over at her, puzzlement etched into his handsome face.

"What's so funny?"

"Megabyte thinks we've disappeared because I made him think that."

"What?"

"Yeah. Watch." Tamara stared at Megabyte. There's a swarm of mosquitoes after you. she thought. Suddenly Megabyte began hopping around and waving his arms around.

"Ah! Adam, she's at it again!" he cried.

"Megabyte, what are you talking about? Who's at what again? What's happening?"

"He thinks mosquitoes are chasing him." Adam stared at her in amazement.

"Mosquitoes?" Adam looked back at his crazed friend, then at Tamara. "Do you mean that you can create illusions?"

"So it seems." Tamara said. Suddenly Megabyte looked at them.

"There you guys are. What happened to the mosquitoes?" he asked.

"They were never there, Megabyte, and we never disappeared." Adam said.

"What?"

"Tamara can create illusions, in addition to talking to animals." Megabyte's mouth dropped open.

"Wow. That's pretty cool."

"Yeah." Adam said.

"I have a feeling Tamara's gonna fit in here good." Megabyte said.

"I think so too." Tamara said. She and Adam exchanged smiles. Megabyte noticed the look that passed between them, but refrained from speaking.

The End
