Title: Kevin's Musings
Written by: Drew Thiele
This story takes place after Kevin gets abducted, and has a new power, and ...something else in
potential. He hasn't told anyone about this latter development. Enjoy!
South Taphini Beach
A bright sun day soaked into my being, while breezes swirled around. I was sitting on a blanket
near the ocean, with my closed fists on my cheeks. I stared at the lapping rhythm, slowly being
hypnotized by it's ebb and swell. The Ocean's rythmic waves tried to calm my thoughts, but I
couldn't help but think about my last encounter with the demon. I was thankful to Phoebe and her
...Boyfriend. I had a hard time getting that word out of my mouth, since I had started to feel
'something', for her. My thoughts quickly turned into the direction of brooding. My shields
weren't as tight as I had thought, when I suddenly heard an implosion that heralded a fellow
Tomorrow Person. I quickly looked up, hoping against hope that it wasn't Phoebe. I didn't want
her to know what I was thinking, and feeling about this new breakout. It was Megabyte, though,
to my relief, and I smiled at him, "What's up, Megabyte?" Megabyte tried to be nonchalant, and
smiled at me. He simply said, "Can't I just pop in, and say hi?"
I rolled my eyes at him, and said point-blank. "I know you never *just* pop in. What's up?"
Megabyte harrumphed at me, and smiled. "Well, actually. I sorta sensed you, and it seemed like
you might need someone to talk to?" I felt uncomfortable, and tightened my shields around my
mind. He sensed it immediately, and looked hurt. "Hey! What's the deal, Kevin?"
My feelings were in turmoil, and I was at a loss of words to explain. I tried to phrase it in a way
that wouldn't drop a bombshell. "Ah. Well...You know, I do have a new power, right?" Megabyte
nodded at me, said, "It's a pretty neat power.", and prompted me to continue.
My stomach was starting to feel nauseous. I had NO idea how he would react to my revelation.
"Ah. Um. ...Er.. ", was my not so intelligent reply.
Megabyte started to get annoyed, but calmed himself down, and said, "Whatever it is...you can
tell me."
"I know you're not that close to Phoebe... I think I know why."
Megabyte looked at me in surprise. He hastily told me he liked her. I noticed his unease for a
moment, and knew that he was still unsure about the Charmed One/Witch/TP thing.
I felt miserable, and burrowed my face into my knees. He reached out and touched me on my
shoulder, to try to reassure me that it was okay. His response only served to anger me.
This anger didn't go away, but only seemed to spur me into a surprised and explosive reply.
"Dammit! I'm a WITCH!"
Megabyte recoiled in shock, and blinked rapidly. "What do you mean? How do you know? Why
didn't you tell me?"
I groaned, then sighed to myself. "Because I knew you wouldn't understand!"
Megabyte looked poleaxed. After a few minutes, he stammered out a response, "Kevin, I'm sorry.
I should know better."
I sighed and accepted his apology, even if it didn't feel like it meant much. "I can't talk to Phoebe.
She probably is the only one who would understand."
Megabyte looked at me squarely in the eyes. "So. Why don't you?"
My eyes stared back into his and I 'pathed to him, [ Because I like her. ] Megabyte's face
changed to understanding. "I see." Megabyte's feelings seemed to be changing between sympathy
and confusion, mixed in with affection that an older brother would have. "Kevin. I'm sorry I've
been so distant lately. I have had time to think about this for a while. It is not a bad thing, plus....
To me, it just seems like we're all on the same side anyways. We all have different powers that
we use to help people. I should have realized it earlier, Kevin. I'm really sorry."
I could sense his emotions at that time, which were filled with affection, and love. I smiled back
at him. "Thank you." It was all I needed to say. He smiled, and just sat there with me, looking at
the Ocean.
He didn't say anything for a few moments, then asked me the question. "Have you cast any
spells?"
I was somewhat expecting that question, but I let him wait for a moment, to prolong the
suspense, then replied with the truth. "No. Not yet. I wouldn't feel comfortable with doing it. I
probably will talk to Phoebe, or at least one of her sisters about this. Sometime." Megabyte
nodded at me, and gave me a brotherly hug and let go.
I had another surprise for him. I looked at him, and grinned. He was wondering what I was
thinking about. He was also curious why I was smiling. I held out my hand, palm facing upwards.
In a moment, a globe of light shimmered there, to turn into water. Water in the form of a sphere.
Megabyte stared at the globe, and said, [ Wow. That is really cool! ] I chuckled at Megabyte's
reaction, and nodded. I told him that I found out my 'witch' power just a few days ago.
Megabyte grinned, and just remarked, "I'm glad you're okay, Kevin. I had been kinda worried
about you the last few days, ever since that attack of the demon."
I let out a soft smile, at Megabyte. The ocean's waves seemed to echo my mood, calm, and
tranquil. Yep, I thought to myself, Things are resolved. That thought put me in a happier mood
for the rest of the day, as Megabyte and I just enjoyed the companionable silence, until things
began to grow hectic later on. But that was normal, I knew.
