Author's Notes and Disclaimer
I'm cleaning off and reorganizing the hard drive and discovering many things that were left unposted. I suppose, I could consider this a good thing, because that keeps the list a bit active :P
This story is a vignette and somewhat of a companion piece to my first 2nd generation story, "Coming of Age." It actually really helps to read that one before reading this one. "Coming of Age" is found at the TPFICT archive and at my archive (URL in the .sig file below).
Summary: Alexander muses.
Disclaimer: Actually, none! However, the parents of Taryn Newman and Alexander Damon do not belong to me. They aren't mentioned by name, but I thought I would give a little credit. Taryn and Alexander are mine, all mine.
On with the fic!
Taryn was the most beautiful woman in the world to him.
It wasn't just physical beauty, although he would never deny her physical attractiveness. She had huge dark eyes that you could lose yourself in, and a smile that had melted many hearts. But those were added extras and had nothing to do with her inner beauty. Those added extras had nothing to do with making him love her. Her sense of humor, her convictions, and her passions-- those were the things he loved her for. He didn't have the slightest idea when or where it had happened, but he had fallen in love with her years ago. And she was oblivious to it all.
How she remained so oblivious, Alexander couldn't figure out. Between her brothers' teasing and his father's teasing, she should have figured him out years ago. But, then again, everyone was convinced that Alex was suffering from the pangs of an adolescent crush. After all, he was only seventeen; what did he know about love?
Watching Taryn stretch her long legs out and dig her heels in the sand, he realized that he knew a great deal more about love than they gave him credit for. His feelings for the young woman seated beside him went beyond an unrequited crush. His father would never believe that he loved her the way his father loved his mother. No one would have accepted the fact that she was the first thing on his mind in the morning, and his last thought before going to sleep at night. When he was with her, his world was complete. If there was such a thing as soul mates, she was his. He would go to the ends of the earth for her; he would die for her. And someday, he'd have the courage to tell her.
"So," she turned those dark eyes on him, and his heart skipped a beat. "Feel like going for burgers?"
Alex shrugged. "Why not?"
He'd tell her, he promised himself as they stood and he watched her brush sand from her clothes.
Someday . . .soon.
