The players have been contacted by Pan-Galactic Headquarters
in the city of Port Loren, Gran Quivera--the commercial center of the Federation.
They are given the assignment to investigate a breach in security
at several top PGC research centers.
Someone has broken into these centers and destroyed valuable equipment.
The raiders never set off any alarms and never were stopped by
anti-intruder security systems.
The players meet at the Pan-Galactic Security Service building to talk to some PGC experts about why the security at the research centers failed. In the main computer room with them are the chief of security and head programmer, both Humans, and four technicians: a Human, a Yazirian, a Dralasite and a Vrusk.
In the middle of the discussion, the four technicians pull out weapons and take the room hostage! A security officer, having the misfortune of walking by at that time, is struck with a black jelly-like object thrown by the Yazirian technician. The thing sprouts tendrils and tangles around the guard, pinning his arms to his side and constricting around his throat!
The Vrusk technician disconnects a glowing cube from a nearby computer
terminal and slides it into his vest, while the others begin smashing equipment.
As soon the the Vrusk has the cube, the Yazirian fires a few laser bursts
at the players, and the four criminals make a break for it.
Outside the building, the Vrusk dashes across the street to a monorail terminal while the other three jump into a "skimmer" (hovercar) and speed into Port Loren's heavy traffic.
A fast-paced chase follows as the players try to stop the raiders before they can meet at the nearest spaceport and escape the planet.
If the players manage to capture the Vrusk, Star Law later informs them that the cube he was carrying contained extensive data on all of the major PGC security systems. Had it fallen into the wrong hands, things really would have gotten out of control!
If the players stop the skimmer, Star Law searches the vehicle and finds a recorded audio-visual message. In the message is a Sathar congratulating the raiders for breaking through Pan-Galactic's security. The worm then describes the raiders' next mission. They are to fly to a top-secret military asteroid where research is underway on a special weapon that can reduce entire populations to mass hysteria. They are to meet agents who have already infiltrated the base and steal the device.
The players realize that this case was more diabolical than anyone thought. The raiders were working for the Sathar!
