Twilight Dancer Tak 1

by Dean Bailey
Not feeling much like talking, you move off from the group and head into
the maintenance bays. It seems that you managed to slip away without the
others even noticing.
There are lots of different bays and the orange suited tech-exs seem to
enjoy the company of another specialist. Several are willing to talk as you
roam through their various work stations. You have operated stations very
similar to these when you were a yeoman in Eck Co years ago. This angers
you and you drop this thread of thought.
A Federation Courrier, a beautiful sleek new HS 2 ship with swept back
wings is undergoing some overhauling and minor repair work. The Techs are
very busy and you can tell that this is a rush job for the orange suited monkeys.
As you approach the work leader, he quickly speaks to you as he moves
away to other tasks.
" Good day, friend. I'm truly sorry, but I haven't the time ta'day to
speak with you. This Courrier must be tip-top shape in an hour. It will
be a close thing. She may not make her deadline to Prenglar as is..."
He ducks under the hull and disappears from view as you wave a "roger."
Glancing over your shoulder, you note that there is a black cloaked
individual watching the craft and you. Psi-Corps.
You move down several corridors and bays, stopping to talk to a few techs.
Some even tell you where you can pick up some tools really cheap on station.
When you finally head back toward the KNEIS-ENAU, you are a little
worn out from the walking and are ready to relax.
Just outside the ship, you notice an orange suited tech looking at his
chronocomm and nervously looking around. He seems very agitated.
" What are you doing, friend?" you ask as you come up beside him.
He wheels on you about to speak harshly, when he draws up short, as it is
obviously not whom he had expected. He still looks very displeased,
though.
"Greetings in the name of the One" the Yazarian intones. " I am
waiting here for the rest of the work crew from this ship to meet me to
complete a minor rework on the main engines. The Chief Engineer himself
promised that three of his crew would be here. They are late." His uneasiness
grew with each passing minute.
More and more of the Fleet personnel passed out of the airlock, but none
came over the the engineer.
Casually, you inspected him and his gear. He seemed to be a regular mid
class engineer with appropriate tools and equipment for the task at hand.
Several of his wheeled tool boxes were closed off and locked down. You would
really like to see the stuff that he has to work with. He was very agitated though.
Finally, after another thirty minutes, a trio of mixed crewman in dirty uniforms
comes up from behind you and taps the engineer on the shoulder.
" Greetings Friend" states the Human.
"Greetings in the name of the One!" nearly shouts the orange suited Yazarian.
" Are we ready to begin the repairs?" says a Dralasite.
" Yes, lets get this moving. Please excuse us Friend, we must complete this
task soon. Time is short as the ship is departing at 0700. Good day to you"
says the orange suited Yazarian.
Left alone at the access point, you look around trying to decide what to do next.
