Taanik Background Information
by Alan Whitaker
Taanik spent most of his youth in the desert city of Gran Faenx on Terledrom in the Fromeltar system, where his parent was assigned on a military research base. He learned to shoot a laser pistol by targeting desert chum-sloth, but spent more time tinkering with his parent's computers and robot projects. His school mates remember him for his amazing technical pranks (and for his uncanny ability to talk his way out of punishment). He soon became a favorite with his peers, who saw him as their only hope against the oppressive instructors. He was somehow a favorite with his instructors too, who were trapped in his contagious humor and unassuming manner, even while victim to his latest tricks. While humble about his physical strength, his class mates were quick to pit him up against others in contests of strength and stamina.
While nearing graduation from the intermediate, Taanik's life underwent a strange and tragic twist: the unexplained disappearance of his parent. An older cousin, an adventurer named
Paaglo, soon came into Taanik's life as a guardian and pal. He helped coax Taanik out of his shock, and told enough fantastic tales of adventure that Taanik soon craved some intrigue of his own. The cousins also spurred each other on in a continuous volley of jovial pranks.
In a way, Taanik set out to follow in the footsteps of Paaglo. Which brings us to our current tale. . . .
