; Yesterday I checked the winning fractal images that will appear 
; in the 2004 fractal calendar.  They're all good images, well 
; worth the honor they have been given, but I couldn't shake the 
; impression that beneath the glitter they all look alike.  Then I 
; checked my recent fractal offerings and noticed that beneath the 
; various adornments, they also all look alike.

; The largest percentage of the calendar fractals are embellished 
; spirals; most of my FOTD fractals are Mandelbrot midgets, not 
; quite as embellished, but still starting to look monotonously 
; alike.  Is this similarity the beginning of the path to a 
; fractal dead end?  Or have I merely decided to specialize in one 
; inexhaustible aspect of the world of fractals?  Perhaps I should 
; add some variety to my fractal explorations -- take a few new 
; paths in the months to come.  I'll make that decision when the 
; FOTD CD is safely wrapped up.

; Today's image however is one of another quadratic midget, this 
; one located in a spurious valley of the fractal created by 
; mixing various portions of Z^(-0.876) and Z^(-8.76), then adding 
; (1/C).  I named the image "Fractal Olives" because of the olive-
; green color of the eight small spirals surrounding the midget, 
; and not because I like olives.  In fact, I can't stand the 
; disgusting fruit or berry or whatever it is.

; I rated the image at a perfectly average 5.  After all, it's 
; just another midget, with little or nothing to remember it by.  
; The 15-minute render time is rather slow for such a mediocre

; The weather Tuesday here at Fractal Central was quite hot and 
; humid, with unhealthy air that made things even worse.  The 
; temperature of 93F 34C kept the cats confined to the shade of 
; the porch.  The health warnings broadcast by the media got me to 
; wondering about the silence from the environmentalists.  Why do 
; the environmentalists, who speak so loudly about possible future 
; environmental hazards, remain so silent about already existing 
; hazards such as the dangerously polluted air in our big cities?

; But that's another story for another time.  Right now, it's 
; another hot and polluted day, and there's graphic work to be
