[6]) ; Id: <1.5.4.16.20021014105059.2a0fba36@pop.mindspring.com> ; --------- ; FOTD -- October 14, 2002 (Rating 6) ; ; Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: ; ; Today's image has been named "What is it?". ; ; That is a question. ; ; The answer is that today's image is a picture of the midget I ; spoke of yesterday, which lies just beyond the southeast border ; of yesterday's "Coronal Globules" image. Curiously enough, ; since I have rotated the view 180 degrees, yesterday's scene now ; lies not northwest but southeast of today's. ; ; The midget in today's image is one of the more chaotic I have ; come upon in my travels through the world of fractals. It is ; quite difficult to find any definite theme that runs throughout ; the scene. Some areas consist of fractal material so finely ; ground that it resembles sand. Other areas consist of ; relatively simple spirals. But the coloring shows that a broad ; overall pattern does exist around the midget, and that this ; broad pattern consists of the usual 2,4,8... series of elements. ; ; One of the powers of Z in the generating formula is -0.05, which ; defines a value so close to unity that it might be expected to ; have little effect on the finished fractal. But the maxiter of ; today's image is 6000, which gives plenty of iterations in which ; that tiny departure from unity can build up to a significant ; change in the overall appearance of the image. ; ; Today's image might rate closer to a 5 than a 6. The image is a ; bit too disorganized to be above average, and it also lacks a ; theme. But when rating it, I decided to do myself a favor. I'm ; harsh enough on my fractals as it is. ; ; The attached parameter file requires 38 minutes of rendering ; time on my aging P200 machine. I wonder if it would render in ; 1/10th the time on a state-of-the-art P4-2000mhz machine. ; ; Somehow I doubt it. ; ; Those with little to do might run the parameter file, but most ; will choose to download the completed image from Paul's web site ; at: ; ; ; ; or from Scott's site: ; ; ; ; The fractal weather Sunday continued cloudy, with a temperature ; of 66F 19C, but it did not rain and the grass was dry, and as a ; result, the dynamic cats had enough quality time in the yard to ; keep them happy. ; ; I now find the work accumulating -- a clear signal to get busy. ; So until tomorrow, take care, and the search for the last ; fractal could be a long one. ; ; ; Jim Muth ; jamth@mindspring.com ; jimmuth@aol.com ; ; ; START PARAMETER FILE================================ What_is_it { ; time=0:37:52.55--SF5 on a P200 reset=2002 type=formula formulafile=allinone.frm formulaname=mandelbrotmix4 function=recip passes=1 center-mag=+3.206663019352063/+3.038945988679095/3\ 080341/1/50/8.66889070978704712e-007 params=5/\ -0.05/0.5/-11/-0.8623/10000000 float=y maxiter=6000 inside=0 periodicity=10 colors=000MDPNEOOENPEMQEKREJSEITEGUEFVEEWFCXEDYEEZ\ EF_DG`DHaDIbCIcCJdCKeBLfBMgBNhBNiDRjEUkFXlG_mIcnJf\ mKipLllLppMopNnlOnpPmpQmpRloSloTkoUkoVjoWjoXinXinY\ hnZhn_gn`gnafmbfmcemdemedmfdmgcmgclfeldglcilbki_lf\ YlcWm`UmYSmVQnSOnPMoMKoJIoKHnLHnMGnNGnOFnPFnQEnREn\ SDnTDnUCnVCnWBnXBnYAnYAnZ9m_9m`8ma8mb7mc7md6me6mf5\ mg5mh4mi4mj3mk3ml2ml2mm4lm6km7jm9inAhnCgnEfnFeoHdo\ IcoKboMaoN`pP_pQZpSYpUXqVWqXVqYUq_Tq`Tr_Sr_Rr_Qr_P\ r_OrZNrZMrZLrZKrZKsYJsYIsYHsYGsYFsXEsXDsXCtXBtXBvW\ AvW9wW8wW7xW6xV5yV4yV3yV2xV2rW4lV5fU6aT8XS9SRAORBP\ SAQTARUASU9TV9UW9VX8WY8X_8Y_7Za7_b7`c7ad6bf6cg6dg5\ eh5fi5gi4hj4ik4jk3kl3lm3mm3lk2lj2li2lh2lg2lf2le2lc\ 1lb1la1l`1l_1lZ1lY1lX1lV0lU0lT0lS0lR0lQ0lP0lO0kQ2j\ R4jS5iU7hV9hWAgXCfZDf_Fe`HdbIdcKcdLbeNbgPahQ`iS`jT\ akRakPblOblMcmKcmJcnHdnFdoEeoCfpAgp9hq7iq5jr4kr2lr\ 1mp0nq0or0ps0qt0ru0sv0tw0 } frm:MandelbrotMix4 {; Jim Muth a=real(p1), b=imag(p1), d=real(p2), f=imag(p2), g=1/f, h=1/d, j=1/(f-b), z=(-a*b*g*h)^j, k=real(p3)+1, l=imag(p3)+100, c=fn1(pixel): z=k*((a*(z^b))+(d*(z^f)))+c, |z| < l } ; END PARAMETER FILE================================== ; ;
