The result is a scattering of ; fractals, the largest of which has open areas with four lobes ; strung along its main stem, which in this case points north. ; These open areas have tiny straight filaments radiating from ; them. I checked a filament radiating from one of the very small ; open areas near the tip of the stem, and found today's fractal. ; ; The midget at the center is standard enough. The nearly- ; straight star-studded filaments radiating from it are what makes ; the image worth being declared FOTD for May 28. Actually, with ; a rating of only an average 5, the image kind of sneaks onto the ; honor roll by the skin of its teeth, but even a 5-rated fractal ; is worth 3 minutes spent in calculating it. ; ; As I tried to think of a name for the image, many cute and artsy ; phrases came to mind and were quickly discarded. I finally ; settled on the name "Fractal Friday" in honor of the day on ; which I found the image. I realize that the image will not be ; posted until Saturday, and not seen by some until Sunday, but ; the 'Friday' name is the one the image will forever bear. ; ; There are two ways of seeing the Friday fractal: first, by ; running the included parameter file and waiting a few minutes; ; second, by downloading the completed image from the FOTD web ; site at: ; ; ; ; Lots of sun, gentle breezes, and a temperature of 81F 27C made ; Friday a perfect day for the fractal cats, who spent over 6 ; hours in the yard. Today is starting much the same, but I see ; showers in the forecast for later today. For me the day looks ; very slow, which is the way I like it. The next FOTD will ; appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and be lively. ; ; ; Jim Muth ; jamth@mindspring.com ; jimmuth@aol.com ; ; ; START PARAMETER FILE======================================= Fractal_Friday { ; time=0:03:11.64--SF5 on a P200 reset=2004 type=formula formulafile=allinone.frm formulaname=MandelbrotMix4 function=ident passes=1 center-mag=+0.00900244971839993/-0.673234783574483\ 20/6.237726e+012/1/-0.238074244069548191/0.2380742\ 440695485 params=1/3/0.2/5/0/0 float=y maxiter=1500 inside=fmod proximity=0.26 outside=tdis periodicity=10 mathtolerance=0.05/1 colors=000kz00z06z0Iz0Tz0Tiz6vxOzOrzzmz`gzCEMGOg6V\ z0zddxzEzpmrzIPOrZdi`zGv0VnRGgt08z0Gz0Oz0Vz0zzkzzR\ pz64O0Mr0VzeZzO`z4zt000m00r00v20xP0xk0xz0xz0xz0tzI\ pzZmrniize`zbbzTbzKdzAdz0dz0PeKA`i8Xd8IZ82T80P00V0\ 6`0Gd0Gi0Gm0Gp0Gt0Gx0Gz0Gz2Gz4Gz8GzAGzCKzCOzERzEVz\ GZzGbzIezIizKmxKptMtrMxpOzkOzgOzbOzZOzTOzPOzKOzGOz\ CKG0`RCbk2bz002M2VAMv0z20`X00x00t00r00p00g60``0gz0\ mzAvzTn0KzbTzCzn0zx0zz0nz0zxerzE0K`8eKOz2mmzizgezG\ 0008P0Or0d4zbPgbiPbz6z0zzGzxbbmzC4bzMzZz0zvGtnbZgz\ AptbizCvKzkp`mCXgmARzxXzOvz8pz2kz0ez0zzixzG0OT6gEO\ z0xbzprpizKz`znxZmzmEvVOzGVz0RzkVzXXzI`z2z0RpKEip0\ z0gx6TpXGiv0O6PRRGVi6Zz00gzzm2zz0nz0zk8zt2rz0iz0VK\ zZpVIz8Tz000ZAbAzC0xV0pm0iz0z400p60gg0rTEzGRz0zdmz\ nXzzInz2000060AX0Pv02zKGz8Rz0IzE0A`0`KKx2znOnzzgzR\ z0bvIMkn4gzOdz4MidVzEzz`nr4iz0ez0K0zRMtXpMzznxzTmz\ 8Gv0g02zvTzzEnz000nzMKvg8 } frm:MandelbrotMix4 {; Jim Muth a=real(p1), b=imag(p1), d=real(p2), f=imag(p2), g=1/f, h=1/d, j=1/(f-b), z=(-a*b*g*h)^j, k=real(p3)+1, l=imag(p3)+100, c=fn1(pixel): z=k*((a*(z^b))+(d*(z^f)))+c, |z| < l } ; END PARAMETER FILE========================================= ; ;
