This left little time for fractal ; exploration. Luckily, things settled down around midnight, and ; I barely managed to find a fractal. I did not actually search ; for today's image; I merely happened upon it in passing through ; in search of larger game. This is why I named the serendipitous ; image "In Passing". ; ; The parent fractal was created by combining 2 parts of Z^(-0.1) ; with 0.1 part of Z^3 and adding (1/C). The resulting fractal is ; shaped much like a figure eight. Today's scene is located in ; the eastern valley of the 'eight'. ; ; Actually, with its rating of 5, the image is better than it has ; any right to be. The totally random color palette works unexpec- ; tedly well in bringing out the twisted, tortured effect of the ; fractal elements. And to top things off, the render time is a ; satisfyingly short 5-1/2 minutes. ; ; Those with internet access, (and who is not in that group), may ; save a bit more time by going to the FOTD web site at: ; ; ; ; and downloading the finished GIF image from there. ; ; One rain-and-lightning storm after another moved through the ; Fractal Central area on Saturday. The explosive thunder kept ; the fractal cats well out of sight, hidden in the deepest ; recesses of the large closet. They did not emerge until just ; after midnight when the noise finally abated. Surprisingly, the ; fractal basement remained dry even though over 4 inches 10cm of ; rain fell during the day. It's too bad that the local electric ; companyette could not keep the electricity flowing. Today is ; starting extremely warm and humid, but so far it is dry. The ; cats are still skittish. We'll see how it goes. ; ; Unless something unexpected happens, the next FOTD will appear ; in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and keep your powder dry. ; ; ; Jim Muth ; jamth@mindspring.com ; jimmuth@aol.com ; ; ; START PARAMETER FILE======================================= In_Passing { ; time=0:05:29.88--SF5 on a P200 reset=2004 type=formula formulafile=allinone.frm formulaname=MandelbrotMix4 function=recip passes=1 center-mag=-0.31250229103769440/+0.060147269763216\ 66/72508.8/1/-105/3.03052194450259549e-009 params=2/-0.1/0.1/3/0/0 float=y maxiter=1600 inside=0 periodicity=10 colors=000SGWJBL95AOW`NKJxvlUTOQN7nzqPVR4qu2_a1IJO\ kCI_9CO66C3sfP`SGIE8tDEhraMRJ0ys4dd3UU2KK1AAlqP_cI\ ORCCD6Z8PN5GB28Wk4O_3GO28C1MpPwWIhODUG9F84sWsY5VM3\ KB1AfswS`cEIKe_USOKECAErfAdW7RL3DAFhc7MK4Oj2CNG6WC\ 4O83G418twhehXSUMEFBXxEGU7vinTNPZeKQVFHLA8A5FJc79K\ VeWP22G11800HIcCDU89K44A35CmzhXeUGLFmycPVKKHEA870w\ b0cQ0KDxKNcDFK67wfRF5T72EvvxsAd`6RI3D__JRREII9994`\ EWRAOI7G938FNYAFM57B60r30RcK_QDOD6CF7oMgCET87E4BCi\ 89Y56N23BlcG_UCOK8CA4nyUwNocFYK7H9lk6__4OO2CCcAcU7\ UK5KA2A2fZ1LHTiaoPfQCLGQS8DEAeW6SL3EAPsTCSE9Fm6AX3\ 5GRYNKPHDHB685HjZ8NHgYPMHCgmI7KN3ABe319xvuliTONlx1\ Juj9TNilNNOBY0LP0FH0A805jx1Vc0FK04bR3TK2JD1961rH0R\ 81KQ0DH068f3PIS39E1YHmGL_HMXJOUKPRMYaOflQovwRDDQTR\ wrDURliU_YMONFCB78Xn`Lv4SnVwaFUJD7Y63HS6gI4T92EJk9\ iShUIUF9FWQeOJVGDL86A9Hu6Ba35J8sa5`P2ICG_18I0T9bE4\ JtowebhSQUEDFkLQWEHG78aMf } frm:MandelbrotMix4 {; Jim Muth a=real(p1), b=imag(p1), d=real(p2), f=imag(p2), g=1/f, h=1/d, j=1/(f-b), z=(-a*b*g*h)^j, k=real(p3)+1, l=imag(p3)+100, c=fn1(pixel): z=k*((a*(z^b))+(d*(z^f)))+c, |z| < l } ; END PARAMETER FILE========================================= ; ;
