I named the image "Quintic Confusion" ; because of its extremely busy appearance. I was ready to rate ; the image at an 8, but I could not bring myself to honestly give ; such a high rating. The fractal picture is simply too disorgan- ; ized and muddy. I finally decided on a rating of 7. The math- ; tolerance entry in the parameter file is necessary to insure ; that the image is calculated at the correct magnitude. ; ; To create the image, I used the MandelbrotN formula, which I ; wrote a number of years ago to generate images of Mandeloids of ; any power. With this formula, the image renders in 14-1/2 min- ; utes. Curiously, when I checked the time the manzpower formula ; would take to calculate the image, I found it would take almost ; 19 minutes. ; ; The cobweb-like appearance apparently holds true of all Mandel- ; oids of the order n.003, where n is an odd positive integer. ; When n is even, the railyard effect appears. In the next FOTD, ; I'll see how large I can raise the value of n and still find an ; acceptable image. ; ; Today's image may be calculated from the included parameter ; file, or it may be viewed on the FOTD web site at: ; ; ; ; The fractal cats were annoyed not at all by the cloudy and ; cooler weather here at Fractal Central on Wednesday, with a ; temperature of 66F 19C and a few drops of rain. They were too ; busy checking and exploring the basement, which they got into ; for the first time. After deciding that all was well down ; there, the duo settled for a relaxing evening. ; ; My day was slow, but not as slow as the past several days have ; been. I expect tomorrow to be another slow day, which should ; mean another interesting fractal. That fractal will appear in ; 24 hours. Until then, take care, and be ready for the great ; revelation. ; ; ; Jim Muth ; jamth@mindspring.com ; jimmuth@aol.com ; ; ; START PARAMETER FILE======================================= Quintic_Confusion { ; time=0:14:38.04--SF5 on a P200 reset=2004 type=formula formulafile=slices.frm formulaname=MandelbrotN passes=b center-mag=-0.53558959324674450/-0.001231684234550\ 91/5.008814e+012/1/25/0 params=5.003/0/0/0/0/0 float=y maxiter=4500 inside=255 periodicity=10 mathtolerance=0.05/1 colors=0000006Gz0Dz0Az06z0Gz1Pz8XyIeuQoqZyoJsB5m0E\ P1P4QSEJWQEXbAXbAXbAXc8Xe8Zi6Zk6Zm6Zm5Zm5Zm4Zm4Zk4\ Zi2GX2Mc2Xm4Xp4Xm4Xi5Xc5XZ6XW64ggPPsk8zeWz`uzWzzMz\ uEmX6XB1J0BS2L`BWiMesXqzgszzuzWvzzyzLzzzzzAzz5zz1v\ z4ov6gkAb`BWQEPGII6LD0M80Q50U10X00Z00b00e00i00k00q\ 10uA0yI0zS1zb2zk4zWbyIzio2zc4zU4zL4zB4z24z04v04s04\ o0Dg0M`0XU0eM0qG0zA1z4AzEIoPQcZZUkgJvqBz6kM4qL1vL0\ zL0zL0zL0zL0vP5cSDMWJ8XXQShcgzzhzcW6MPL5IJDIIJIIQI\ GXIEcIEkILiJSgLXeMccPkbQq`SyZUzZUuZSmZScZSXZSQZSIZ\ SBZS5ZSGWUSUWbSXoQZzP`zM`20Q80XD8bIMgDWkAbo5is2sv0\ zz0zz0zzzMzzsgzvXvyPmzEez6Xz0Qz0Jz0`z8sqZquWoySmzP\ kzLizIgzEezDkzJozPssWvk`zcgzXmzQuzJzzDzz6zz5zz5zz5\ zz5uA40DU0KP00K0BE0X2WQ2UL2UE1UK1UP1UP1UP4UP5UP8UP\ AUPDUPEUPIUPJUPMKQPANS0SU0VX0XZ0Zb0Zc0`Z0bW0cQ2eMA\ gJIgESiB`k8im4uo1zo0zi0ze0y`0qX0iU0bP0WL0PI0ID0BA0\ 5600B24GB6LMAPXDWQuMMv000 } frm:MandelbrotN {; Jim Muth b=p1, z=p2, c=p3+pixel: z=z^(b)+c, |z| <= 16 } ; END PARAMETER FILE========================================= ; ;
