It is named "Olympic Fractal". The reason for the ; name is not apparent from the appearance of today's image. The ; unlikely name was totally inspired by the parent fractal. ; ; This parent fractal consists of several narrow, overlapping ; rings, which I suspect are mathematical artifacts of some sort. ; But made of artifacts or not, the parent reminds me quite ; strongly of the five overlapping rings of the Olympic logo, ; which is why I gave today's fractal image its name. The image ; is located on the edge of one of the rings, very near the ; X-axis. ; ; After a not-so-careful consideration, I rated the image at a 7, ; which is a notable comedown from the rating of Nov. 30th's lofty ; image, but still well worth the tiny effort required to view it. ; The lightning-fast calculation time of 57 seconds means that the ; image can be finished faster than one can go to the next room to ; pour a drink. ; ; Perhaps the most convenient way to see the scene is to visit the ; FOTD web site at: ; ; ; ; and view the completed fractal there. ; ; Heavy clouds, high winds and torrential thunder-showers passed ; through Fractal Central on Friday, while the temperature reached ; an unprecedented 75F 24C. Unlike the old fractal cats, named ; Thomas and Tippy; the new fractal cats, Nicholas and Cassie, do ; not run and hide from thunder. When the rain and wind arrived, ; they leaped to the window to watch the excitement. ; ; My day was about average, except for my walking ability, which ; still has much improvement to make. The next FOTD will appear ; in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and be content. ; ; ; Jim Muth ; jamth@mindspring.com ; jimmuth@aol.com ; ; ; START PARAMETER FILE======================================= Olympic_Fractal { ; time=0:00:57.07--SF5 on a P200 reset=2004 type=formula formulafile=allinone.frm formulaname=MandelbrotMix4 function=ident center-mag=+0.00001739587823375/+0.000032322649772\ 03/1.187592e+008/1/92.5/-1.34777874277736132e-009 params=1/100000/1/0.1/0/0 float=y maxiter=300 inside=0 periodicity=0 colors=000qIClCAEVvTIYE6yze3Od4VT6aH84yfOYQRxV_XKw\ 8KnzqlkejYVhKKM7DU6B`6AdbUHRiKGrSCb_9OtwcpiWmXOjJG\ yx2qVemMVjEKKL8WD9Tp7Xd8`T8iTUTs8`V9AYeM0UXFKr7fz6\ zj6K3JDOCBWE0_B3zc6awu5N1PE5M0IS2FX3Db5BJaXSRP_GHu\ 2YzmLWXU_ONcFGzVq7JXQCLZ61a64d67UeX`OL59xfAGg9Eg8C\ g7A36_O6MXMG`GDdBBR4ZX5Qb6HbQiPhUWWNaJGfVdgMUgEJ2v\ rNWWna1kR4iG7O4WY5KxD3sB5o96k78OonYTUeQkfJZgCM3gIE\ YFOPDYFBdiTfQJqAHm8Ej7Bg`TgTOgLJgDEzPcpFOfIv6bcemq\ fSVl7zj6li6_h6M6x0PX5RrzAUJMMFXECGlkURSJW0WJ5AZcJR\ WRKO_DGokDlYBiKA3CfEAYxSQhVhTYzxivflcPoM7q49yMEkWJ\ YeNLoOTpP`qQhrRos9ylRYT6HlJDZW9M0dcMNOJerSUb_IOCdj\ SNSlEZriGo_ElQCiGAw0qs2eo3Vk5KCbwSMYgfegUVgIKteUmO\ JWL8_G9cB9ovwkWY_2Ab3Jd4Ge5Ef6B6u5PW7ifDhXChOBgFAj\ uOihKhWGgJCDUlTIT7DZHBSQ9MZ7FxqUoUJU7CY6B`6Ad69tJM\ oEHkADZl5aa6cR7eG8IG4PD6VB7a88OPUVINaCGKgLWPFS6SaL\ KcHHdDEf9BkSTjMOiHJhBEwPE } frm:MandelbrotMix4 {; Jim Muth a=real(p1), b=imag(p1), d=real(p2), f=imag(p2), g=1/f, h=1/d, j=1/(f-b), z=(-a*b*g*h)^j, k=real(p3)+1, l=imag(p3)+100, c=fn1(pixel): z=k*((a*(z^b))+(d*(z^f)))+c, |z| < l } ; END PARAMETER FILE========================================= ; ;
