Sometimes ; these things just can't be helped. Anyway, here it is, twelve ; hours late, for all it's worth. ; ; Today's image comes from the same indescribable parent fractal ; as yesterday's image. But today, instead of checking a vague ; spiral in a semi-chaotic debris field as we did yesterday, we ; check an almost straight but broken string of debris in the same ; field. What we find there is a variation on yesterday's image. ; ; In yesterday's image the emphasis was on the underlying fractal ; shapes, while in today's image the colors predominate. The name ; "Afire with Passion" was inspired by the colors. It has nothing ; to do with a cheap romance novel, so don't expect any lusty ; pirates or romantic passion. The passion in today's image is of ; the totally abstract mathematical variety. It's in the fiery ; colors, not quite as passionate as a romance novel hero but far ; more intellectual. ; ; After much indecision I rated today's image a 6-1/2. The rating ; is not so great, but today's image is not the best of all time ; either. It's still worth a look however, especially with a cal- ; culation time of only 20 seconds. ; ; Unfortunately, due to the lateness, the pre-calculated GIF image ; will not be posted on the FOTD web site at: ; ; ; ; for 12 hours or so. ; ; On Wednesday the temperature reached 91F 33C here at Fractal ; Central, which is located in central Pennsylvania. Such a ; temperature at the end of September is almost unheard of, and ; made it necessary to turn on the cool air. The fractal cats did ; not worry themselves with heat or cool. They were more inte- ; rested in the pigeons cooing and cavorting on the roof of the ; neighboring house. ; ; Though today's FOTD is shamefully late, tomorrow's should be ; ready on time.
