This area is a difficult place ; in which to work because of its extreme iteration count, which ; in today's image is 1,750,000, demanding a logmap setting of ; minus 146,000. The magnitude of almost 6*(10^12) makes the ; mathtolerance entry necessary. If the calculation flipped to ; arbitrary precision math, the rendering would drag on for a day ; or more. ; ; The name "A Hairy Situation" came about when I noticed how ; closely the curving filaments resemble hairs. The rating of a 7 ; is all I could do for just another trip into the not-so-deep ; depths of the Mandelbrot set. I did put some extra work into ; the coloring, but not enough to figure in the rating. ; ; The calculation time of 9 minutes is reasonable. But this time ; is true only on my fast 2000mhz machine however. On the slow ; old 200mhz unit, the parameter file would take over 2-1/2 hours ; to finish. Since some fractalists still run Fractint on older ; computers, I have sent the image on ahead to Paul at the FOTD ; web site at: ; ; ; ; where it may be viewed almost instantly. ; ; A cloudy, dreary, drizzly day here at Fractal Central on Monday ; brought pleasure to no one, not even to the F.C. cats. The ; temperature of 48F 9C was too warm to be cold and too cold to be ; warm. The ground was wet all day, though the total rain never ; amounted to even a single millimeter. The fractal cats showed ; their disgust by sulking at each other. ; ; My involvement with work left little time to be concerned with ; the weather. Luckily, the work went well. The next fractal ; image will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and ; what is the greatest number of fractals that might possibly ; exist? ; ; ; Jim Muth ; jamth@mindspring.com ; jimmuth@aol.com ; ; ; START PARAMETER FILE======================================= A_Hairy_Situation { ; time=0:09:08.57-SF5 on P4-2000 reset=2004 type=mandel passes=1 center-mag=-1.1719\ 9191062237200/+0.24288823917726240/5.826131e+012/1 params=0/0 float=y maxiter=1750000 inside=0 logmap=-145837 periodicity=10 mathtolerance=0.05/1 colors=000AuzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzA\ uzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzAuzBuzCuzBuzBuzBuzBuzBuzBtz\ BszBpyBmxBkwBhtBfqCcnDakEZhFWeGUbHS_IQXJOUKMRLJOMG\ LNFKODKQDKSCKUCKWBKZBKXCKVDLTFNRFPPGQOGUNHZMGcLGhP\ NmSUrW`vZfzbmzetzwzzzzzwvzetzdqzcozbmyajx`hw_gvZfu\ YdtXcsWbrV`qZ_pcZohYom_nm`nmbnmcnmenmfmmhmmimmkmml\ mmnlmolmqlmrlmtlmulmwgmybmzYzzZzzczzJzzczzZRpHUkGY\ fFa`FeWEzREzSDzTDzUCzUCmVBmWBmXAmXAmYAmZ9m_9m_8m`8\ ma7mb7mb7mc6md6me5me5mf4mg4mh4mi7mj9mkCmkEmkHmkJmk\ MkkOikRgkTekVckYak__kbYkdWkgUkiSklPknKkqFksAkuDksH\ krLkqPkpTkoXkn`kmaknakobkobkpckqckqdkrdlsenseptfsu\ fvuaylYzdUzXPzOLzGHz8LzAOzCRzDVzFYzG`zIczJgzLjzMmz\ OpzPmzRkzTizUfzWdzYbzZ`z`YzbWzcUzeSzgPzhNzjLzlJzmG\ zoEzqCzrAzt7zv5zw3zy1zz3zw5zu7zr8zpAznCzkEziFzgHzd\ JzbKz`MzYOzWQzTRzRTzPVzMXzKYzI_zFazDbzBdzAezAgzALz\ IGzHCzG8zF4zE6zF8zF9zFBzF } ; END PARAMETER FILE========================================= ; ; ; _______________________________________________ ; Fractint mailing list ; Fractint@mailman.xmission.com ; http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/fractint
