But the image does not show two ships ; passing; it shows two almost-Julia sets arranged in a symmetri- ; cal pattern around an imaginary point. ; ; The image is located in the Seahorse Valley complex of the large ; minibrot on the main spike of the Mandelbrot set. The orienta- ; tion is double-rotated 0.005,0.005 degrees from the true Julia ; direction. As is true of many near-Julia sets, this tiny rota- ; tion makes a world of difference in the appearance of the inside ; parts of the parent fractal. ; ; The twin almost-Julia-set theme of today's image is repeated ; without change at ever smaller scales at the centers of the ; Julia sets in the image, apparently all the way to infinity, ; which is the way things usually go in the world of fractals. ; ; The basic image rates a 6. The extra half-point that brings the ; rating to 6.5 is a reward for the effort I put into coloring the ; scene in an effort to make the almost-Julia sets resemble real ; three-dimensional objects. ; ; The calculation time of 5 minutes is true on the 2000mhz unit. ; Surprisingly, on the 200mhz unit the same image finishes in well ; under 9 minutes, which is only 1.8 times the running time of the ; supposedly 10 times faster unit. Even more surprising, with ; type=mandel fractals the 10-times-faster machine runs almost 20 ; times as fast. ; ; But why not forget this timing confusion by visiting the FOTD ; web site at: ; ; ; ; and viewing the finishedimage there. ; ; Clouds and occasional light showers of rain marred Sunday here ; at Fractal Central, though the temperature of 75F 24C could ; hardly have been improved upon. The fractal cats showed their ; dis-satisfaction when they got into a spat to decide who would ; spend the afternoon on the ottoman foot-stool. Cassie won the ; minor dispute with a loud hiss and a hit to Nicholas' head. ; Nicholas then sulked for an hour or so. ; ; My day was about average; most likely Monday will be the same. ; The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take ; care, and everything that happens above the quantum level has a ; probable cause, but does it have a reason? ; ; ; Jim Muth ; jamth@mindspring.com ; jimmuth@aol.com ; ; ; START PARAMETER FILE======================================= PassingInTheNight { ; time=0:05:08.10-SF5 on P4-2000 reset=2004 type=formula formulafile=basicer.frm formulaname=SliceJulibrot4 center-mag=+0.000680161\ 02056917/+0.00100690867803902/1095589/1/-2.5/0 params=89.995/0/89.995/90/-1.768531/0.0002/0/0/2/0 float=y maxiter=32767 inside=255 periodicity=0 colors=000Ok5Ok5Nk5Pl5Um5Zn5co5hp5mq5rr5vz4zz3zz2z\ z2vz4rz6my7hw9cuBZsCUqEPpGKoHInJKmLLlMNkOPjQQiRShT\ TgURfSQfRPeQOePNdOMdMLcLKcKJbJIbIHbGGaFFaEE`DD`CC_\ AB_9AZ89Z78Z69`CAbIBcOCeUDg_EhdIccM_cPWcNYdM_dLaeK\ beIdfHffGggFigDkhCmhBniApi8rj7sj6uk5wk4xk6wl8vlAum\ BtmDsmFrnGqnIpnKooLnoNmpPlpQkpSjqUiqVhqXgrZfr_frag\ nbhjdigejcgk`hlXjmUkmQmnNnoJppGqqCsr9ts5us2tp3sm3s\ k3rh3qf4qc4pa4oZ4oX5nU5mR5mP5lM6kK6kH6jF6iC7iA7h77\ H6RJ7TL8VN9XPA_RBbTCeVDhXElZFo`GrbHucIxdJzdKzeLzeM\ zeNzfOzfPzgQzgRzgSzeTzcUzbXz`Zz_azYczXeuVhuTjtSmtQ\ otPqsNrsMssItoFukBvg8wd4r`1mX0hUBcTDZSFVRHSRJQQLOP\ NMPQKOSJNUINeMMjTLrVLwYKz`JzcJzdIzcHzaHz_GzYFzWFzU\ GvSHqQInOJkMKhKKfILeGMcEKbCF`DAZEAYFAWGAVHATIASJAQ\ KAOKALKAJKAHKAJKALKANKAPLFRMGTNGROHPPINQJMRKLSKKTL\ JUMIVNHWOGXOGYNGXNHWMHVLIULIUKJUKJUJJUJKUIKUHLUHLU\ GMWGMYFM_FQaDUcBXeA`g8ci7 } frm:SliceJulibrot4 {; draws all slices of Julibrot pix=pixel, u=real(pix), v=imag(pix), a=pi*real(p1*0.0055555555555556), b=pi*imag(p1*0.0055555555555556), g=pi*real(p2*0.0055555555555556), d=pi*imag(p2*0.0055555555555556), ca=cos(a), cb=cos(b), sb=sin(b), cg=cos(g), sg=sin(g), cd=cos(d), sd=sin(d), p=u*cg*cd-v*(ca*sb*sg*cd+ca*cb*sd), q=u*cg*sd+v*(ca*cb*cd-ca*sb*sg*sd), r=u*sg+v*ca*sb*cg, s=v*sin(a), c=p+flip(q)+p3, z=r+flip(s)+p4: z=z^(p5)+c |z|<=9 } ; END PARAMETER FILE========================================= ; ; ; ; _______________________________________________ ; Fractint mailing list ; Fractint@mailman.xmission.com ; http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/fractint ;
