A Virtual Field Trip: Details
No mortal could possibly learn to use a GPS receiver solely from a lecture; field experience is vital. This exercise is designed to give you some practical knowledge.
- We will be hiding Tupperware containers with mineral specimens in them. The object is to learn how to use a GPSr (GPS receiver) to find them. They will be in or near the SL Valley.
- If you don't yet know how to use a GPS, or if you don't have access to one, contact one of our Preceptors: Joe Marty, Dana or Lynn Wilson, Jason Glenn or Mark Swain. We'll be happy to help you get started.
- When you find the cache take something for yourself but we'd like you to trade 1:1 if you can ... nothing fancy, trade even.
- Be sure that a label with locality information is securely attached to the specimen(s) you leave. Polyethylene storage bags are ideal.
- Make a note of your experience on the MCU website and/or tell us about it at the next meeting. Have fun!!
