After years of roaming national parks for fun and work, I feel the time has come to broaden the scope of my coverage of the national park system. To this end, I've launched www.nationalparkstraveler.com, a blog devoted to "Commentary, News and Life in America's National Parks." Our parks face countless challenges on a daily basis. Too little funding, too many traffic jams, overcrowding, crumbling infrastructure, pollution, impingement. Yet at the same time they are incredible preserves, pockets of wilderness where visitors can see what the landscape looked like centuries ago, observe wildlife in its natural setting, and simply relax and forget about the troubles of the day. My intention is not for www.nationalparkstraveler.com to be simply a travelogue. There are plenty of those out there. Rather, I hope to focus on issues confronting the parks from coast to coast with hopes that a little more exposure will help forward the national parks movement and help protect these wonderful places. I also will salt news items throughout the blog and add some personal insights about parks and their amenities. And I invite you to add your thoughts and comments, either through posts or by pointing out topics for coverage to me via email at kurt@kjrwrites.com .
