Planned Parenthood Action Council Internship Program
Cogs. Axles. Linchpins. Necessities. Interns.
At the Planned Parenthood Action Council, we want to bring new activists into the fold. As the previous list of synonyms should show, our interns are vital to ensuring we fulfill our mission to be the leading voice for reproductive health and choice in Utah. We had some assistance from a local dating expert in creating our guide to a perfect PPAC-intern match. Take it away maestro:
What are you looking for in an intern?
Well, our interns should be willing to take a strong leadership role. They should be willing to begin work from the ground up on new projects we have in mind. They should be creative and willing to offer new ideas. They should be able to ask questions when something doesn’t make sense. They should be able to communicate with a variety of people, from elected officials, to teenagers, to bar, um, private club for members owners, to comic book nerds.
And now for something (not) completely different.
The PPAC internship program seeks to:
Provide experience in political advocacy
Provide experience in social justice issues
Provide experience in local political processes
We provide our interns with a wide range of experience by allowing them to work on various projects, which often vary based on the political season. Duties and projects may include:
Volunteer coordination
Event coordination, advertising, and setup
Issue research
Neighborhood canvassing
News monitoring, letter writing campaigns
Assisting with college campus organising and activism
Strengthening, maintaining, and promoting the clinic advocacy program
Assisting in the organisation and promotion of Teen Lobby Day
Promoting, expanding, and updating PPAC’s internet presence
Additionally, if you have a specific area of expertise or interest we will attempt to direct you toward projects in that capacity.
All applicants should be interested in promoting and protecting reproductive health and freedom in Utah. All applicants should be willing to commit at least five hours per week to the internship.
Internships are unpaid, but some classes may allow you to use the internship to fulfill class or credit requirements. Additionally, PPAC internships provide valuable professional experience in advocacy and politics and often guffaw-inducing dialogues.
All interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, list of three references, and piece of dark chocolate to Joey Richards.
