The Republican Party was founded on a commitment to individual liberty and freedom. The party has a proud history of defending individual rights - from fighting to end slavery and working to secure equal protection and voting rights for African Americans, to leading the way in achieving women's suffrage.

Poll after poll confirms that many rank-and-file registered Republicans are pro-choice. Too often, though, we only hear about the anti-choice leaders of the Republican Party, who promote an ideological agenda that seeks to limit individual rights and mandate government intrusion into the most personal of decisions. They claim to represent the majority, but the simple truth is that they don't.

Planned Parenthood Republicans for Choice (RFC) is standing up for pro-choice Republicans across the country and helping them take back their party.

Statement of beliefs

  • We believe in the constitutional right of individuals to exercise freedom of reproductive choice without government intrusion.
  • We believe in the principles of religious freedom and separation of church and state.
  • We believe that providing honest, medically accurate sexuality education - including but not limited to abstinence education - and affordable, accessible family planning services helps reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and abortions.
  • We oppose using the Republican Party to impose specific religious beliefs on others.

"For too long, Republican Party leaders and the party platform have been on the wrong side of the argument. There are no greater Republican principles than freedom of choice and personal responsibility."
....Randall Moody and Darlee Crockett, co-chairs of Republicans for Choice,
quoted in USA Today, May 16, 2007, after the first 2007 Republican presidential candidate debate

What we do

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a non-partisan organization and welcomes the support of all. Our grassroots and "grasstops" community outreach at the local, state and national levels is strongly committed to supporting and involving Republicans who share our views.

  • The Planned Parenthood Action Network includes 60,000 self-identified Republicans who receive e-mail activation alerts.
  • Planned Parenthood conducts outreach and recruiting using our Datamart list of almost 500,000 Republicans identified as pro-choice.

Planned Parenthood affiliates in 15 states (CA, DE, MA, ME, MI, MO, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SD, TX, UT, WI) are currently involved in organizing Republicans for Choice activities, and we are working actively to increase that number. At this fall's regional conferences, we will present the first-ever Republican Outreach Enterprise Award to an affiliate that has demonstrated serious commitment to reaching out to and mobilizing Republicans in the community.
