Welcome to the weaving list !!

PLEASE SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

AFTER A SUCCESSFUL SUBSCRIPTION APPROVAL:
Jump right in and introduce yourself...what are you doing in these art-crafts?? Post a message to the list:

To: weaving@quilt.net
Subject: use W (weaving), S (spinning), D (dyeing) plus an appropriate title
Body: Your introduction

Hope you'll enjoy chatting about weaving, spinning or dyeing. Please note that we don't appreciate discussion about politics nor religion, and take all complaints "off the list"... we are a friendly crowd.

SELLING/BUYING:
Occasional one-liners (no pricing, please), such as: "have x to sell, e-mail me", "want to buy x, e-mail me", "need instructor/I teach in x area, e-mail me", are acceptable. Please do not abuse this rule, since this is not a buy/sell list.

LOOKING FOR PAST MESSAGES/DIGESTS?
Here are the various ways to obtain them:
Archives of Weaving list messages from the last 30-60 days can be found at: http://archives.his.com/weaving/ You can order past digests using e-mail only:

To: majordomo@quilt.net
Body: index weaving-digest
      end

You'll get a response that lists available digests, then,

To: majordomo@quilt.net
Body: get weaving-digest v##.n###
      end

You can get several digests in a single message, just repeat the "get" (1 per line) before the word "end".

Another option, contact Brian:  brianq@interlog.com

FLAMING/SPAMMING/SLAMMING/SLANDERING (or other un-friendliness):
These are not tolerated !! any report of these activities will be dealt with on an individual basis. It could also result in termination of your subscription and banning you from ever returning. All of us make mistakes, but the method in which you write or respond can definitely make the difference.

Save and send all pertinent messages to: ph@his.com

"The rule to keep in mind is that mailing lists are public platforms, with hundreds or thousands of readers, and what you publish in a list is comparable in impact to something you publish in a newsletter or newspaper - the circulation may be smaller than most newspapers, but the impact may be greater than that of a newspaper because the focus of the discussion is so well defined & consistent, so that readers tend to be more interested than usual in what any given poster has to say.

If you say something that's liable to hurt somebody's business, and they find out about it, there's written documentation of what you said (this list keeps online archives that can be accessed later), and if they're mad enough they may be move to take legal action against the poster..." from Paul Heller

RESPONDING:
When responding to a message, be careful not to include a full digest!! Quote only pertinent material, and consolidate several responses in a single message.

Remember, that we all want to help and learn from each other, but at times it may be best to respond to an individual rather than the full list. Use your judgement.

IMPORTANT:  Post messages only from your subbed address.

WHO'S ON THE LIST?

SUBSCRIBE/UNSUBSCRIBE
There are 2 formats for subscription. Both, if you wish. The content of each is the same. The delivery is different. With digest format, several messages are sent as one single e-mail message. With individual format, each message is sent immediately as it it posted (give or take a few minutes).

To: majordomo@quilt.net
Body: (un)subscribe weaving-digest

--and/or--
      (un)subscribe weaving
      end

IMPORTANT: Un-sub only from the address that you used for subscription.

VACATION:
If you leave on vacation, make sure that you UNSUBSCRIBE this list and all others that you might be subscribed to. Otherwise, you might "trash" the list when all of the messages sent to you are bounced back to the list !!

We DO NOT have a "postpone" option. Just unsubscribe, then re-sub when you return. All messages can be retrieved as explained later in this note.

WHAT IS MY SUBSCRIPTION ADDRESS?
Often, mail servers add things to your e-mail address & you find it almost impossible to un-sub.
