Sally, A few years ago I ordered the 25 lb "sampler" of 10/2 cotton. When I called in the order they asked what kinds of colors I wanted or if there were specific colors I didn't want. As I recall they couldn't really guarantee specific colors, but I said blues, greens, reds, and no yellow or orange. I got what I asked for. Think I got about 15 different colors. The amounts varied from a little over a pound to about 1-1/2 pounds. Most of the cones were close to 2 pounds. I was very happy with what I got. There were a couple colors I really didn't like, especially one very orangey red that I would have called orange, but they didn't. I just used it in a mixed warp with other reds and it worked great. I routinely use them for chenille, both variegated and solid. It's 1300 ypp vs. the 1400 ypp available elsewhere, and I prefer the feel of the finished product. Also, the pricing is very competitive and they have an enormous color selection, esp. variegateds. If you are not a business, nor willing to make such a large first time commitment, I know that for awhile several weavers in our area were buying together from Silk City. My volume is enough that I don't do that, but you might consider it. Hope this helps. Amy amyfibre@aol.com Hi fellow fiber artists! We've been so busy throughout the Summer that we haven't had much time to pay attention to emails, but, now that production is slowing down..... and we are wiping that sweaty grit of wool dust off of ourselves, we just wanted to post that we do have a new overstock from our current collection. Available immediately, we have 2/24 nm weight (5,960ypp) machine washable merino lambswool left over from our line. It can be used as-is, or it can be acid-dyed. For further inquiries, please contact us at: mata@nauticom.net Also, I want to thank all of you who gave advice about how to build a spinner/plyer. Successfully, we combined parts from a spinning wheel, along with belts attached to an old sewing machine motor, a variable speed switch, optional foot pedal, and away we plied! Thanks goes to all of you who me aided in the brainstorming! Charlene -- http://www.ashford.co.nz Take an Ashford for a spin ......... While I was just tracking down the address for Heirloom Shuttles, I also read the pamphlet I picked up. I need to correct something I wrote earlier: they *do* make an efs. I don't remember seeing one at Conv, but maybe they had them & sold out. And I forgot to mention an innovative shuttle they had--a "convertible" shuttle that can use either rag or bobbins. Nifty design. Check the website (which I posted earlier) to see if they show one. Be careful about getting addicted, tho. These little guys come w/ a hefty price tag. I was looking for a shuttle to accommodate the Schact 5" bobbin, and the prices ranged from about low $40s to over $60. The difference is the different woods. Also, they have an innovative design for holding the bobbin--magnets! The whole bar (which is hollow brass with iron plugs embedded in each end) lifts out and when you lay it back in, it's held by magnets. Silk and cotton chenille are available from Henry's Attic. This is a wholesaler, and if you do not qualify for an account, local retail yarn stores usually can order it. Silk City also carries silk chenille. Rayon chenille is available from Webs in MA, Fiber Studio in NH to name a couple. LY International in Batavia, IL also carries silk, rayon and cotton chenille, all have to be dyed...(as is the case with Henry's Attic yarns). These are just a few places, I am sure others will have more suggestions. Su :-) The Yarn Source at noakes.yarns@sympatico.ca in Inverary, Ontario carries the Texsolv heddles. They may be able to help you. Marilyn You know another good source of rayon and cotton chenille is Maurice Brassard Fils ( Leclerc owner) in Qubec Canada. I get my chenille from there and love it and the price. Their web site is http://www.leclerclooms.com/ for more info. Might even be a bargain for you Americans with our dollar.
