Adhesives
We
sell Skin Adhesives for Professional, Theatrical Use only. We do not
have the experience nor products for Day-to-day Wig users. If you want to
buy adhesives for everyday use, please read this: [Every Day Wig users
Please Read]
More skin adhesives can be found in our Kryolan Adhesives
section.
Sorry, We no longer sell skin adhesives to day-to-day (lace front wigs) wig wearers.
Please see the end of this price list for
a brief article on skin adhesives.
If you need adhesive for LACE FRONT WIGS,
please read this: We get many calls from people who want to use our
adhesives for lace front wigs. This is what Steve will say; First of
all, the adhesives on this page are for theatrical use only. This means
they will be removed at the end of the performance. There are no
adhesives presented here for daily or extended wear. Please contact
your wig shop for those types of products.
Some wig adhesive
makers say that their products will last for a week or more. I really
don't believe this, and let me tell you why. First of all, skin
products are made to come off. You need to do this for hygenic reasons.
Second, your skin sheds billions of cells everyday. Adhesives stick
only to the top layer of skin, which is dead, and is just waiting to
fall off. No matter what you do, you are basically trying to stick
something to a temporary layer of skin. This is like trying to use
Scotch tape to secure a sand dune. I do understand that there are
supposed to be some adhesives that reform and shift as they are worn so
that they "re-attach" as time goes by.
Now, having said all of that,
we do have some customers who "try" certain products because they have
been recommended by other wig and toupee users. These are usually the
Kryolan brand spirit gums that you will see further down on the page.
The Matt gums simply mean they don't have a shine. Don't forget to get
a remover.
Some people use Medical Adhesive, but remember this;
that stuff is pretty strong and needs a remover. The medical adhesive
stinks to high heaven. I would not use either of these products around
the eyes, especially on the forehead.
I hope this article helps. Good Luck in your Quest.

About
Skin Adhesives
Skin adhesives sold for cosmetic or theatrical use are made from FDA
components and are safe for use on the skin. All are, to a degree
moisture or sweat resistant, so it makes sense that a remover would be
needed to remove them. Always get the right remover for the adhesive
you are using. Bond-Off and Mavidon are two removers that work on
almost anything. Bond-Off contains flammable solvents so it works
faster. Mavidon is not flammable, but is slower, but it can be shipped
by air (so it's fast in its own way.) Please wait for the remover to do
its job, if you get impatient and start pulling you can tear the skin.
Spirit
gum is the traditional skin adhesive, but Prosthetic Adhesive and
Medical Adhesives are stronger in that order. Prosthetic Adhesive is
often latex based and medical adhesives are often silicone based.
Medical Adhesives stink so actors usually don't like them around their
face.
Spirit gum is best for students and beards and
mustaches. Please allow me to teach you a little trick. Put a thin coat
of spirit gum on the skin and allow it to dry. Pull at it will a
lint-free cloth (a piece of panty hose rolled in on itself works
great.) until you can feel it get more and more strength. Use the same
theory that you used when you patched bicycle tires when you were a
kid. In this case, less is more, just like rubber cement. Once you have
some "Tooth" as I call it, you can place the appliance on the skin. For
real holding power, do this to both sides. This also works well with
prosthetic adhesive.
These adhesives won't create a
miracle; if you expect to glue a heavy object to the skin and expect it
to stay you will be disappointed when your skin sags and drops toward
the ground.
