All of the vintage art pieces shown here are from our Victorian Era collection, and most are about 90 to 100 years old. Many of these clip art images are taken from post cards. Post cards were very popular at the turn of the century. If you wanted to really impress your mother, you purchased a hand made post card instead of a mass-produced lithograph. These were actual black and white photographs which were individually hand colored! Other photographs were sepia or brown-toned. Chromolithographs (a type of color printing) could also be very impressive. The best chromolithographs were often made in Germany. These were usually the most colorful and were reproduced by very detailed engravings. This was the era of the "penny post card", popularly called, because they could be mailed with one-cent stamp.
