The tyranist's thoughts
At first I was mildly pleased by this one since the set up was very similar to the Universal
Mummy serials of the '40s, but they soon distinguished themselves from those predecessors
and it was all crap.
So there's a group of archaeology students working in what had to be a museum for a
summer study program, one of which was such a complete asshole that I wondered how
he got on the project. Having been one class short of a minor in archaeology myself, I can
tell you that most of those professors have little patience for the living. Anyway, they are
prepping a Mexican (nee Aztec) mummy for exhibit when one of them--intentionally--brings
it back to life. aaiiiee.
It seems like we've had a glut of this kind of low-budget film the last couple years. Shot
with reasonable productions values, but no money spent on either a cast or a script, they
feature young unheard of actors delivering bad dialogue poorly through inane plot devices.
It sort of reminds me of Full Moon, but most of these companies don't have the integrity
or background that Charles Band does and end up delivering complete crap. Not that the
ideas are bad, they just seem to think they have a built-in audience and they don't care
about the quality of the picture.
About the only really nice thing in the movie was the mummy. Not too scary, but nicely
done.
You don't have to see this movie. Really. Okay, if your twelve year old sister has a mummy
fetish, maybe.
Note: This has no relation whatsoever to
Legend of the Mummy and you should argue vehemently with anyone who says
it does. May Bram Stoker rest in peace.
