Abstract:
Jack, the baker's boy, awakens and finds he's burned all the king's loaves of bread. The master baker will of course flog him, so he panics, and something magical happens. Spectre's Review
This is a long read. The style of writing is quite delightful, and Ms. Jones pays a great deal of attention to detail. It's hard to follow the plot(s), and it takes a bit of getting used to. There are a couple of sequences where you can't put the book down, but not very many of them. I'll probably read the series, but not until I've finished everything else on my list.

The seven rockets are for Tawl's long and endless quest, and everybody elses endless quests. Four wizards for the occasional fracas on the fighting part. One wizard of horror for having some pretty horrid scenes on Larn. Nine wizards for well, magic.

Spectre's Rating
Minus 2 wizards for not having a whole lot happen for a VERY long time. Minus 1 wizard for having something missing from the characters. Minus 1 wizard for just not being a very fascinating world to me.
