Spectre's Review
Good book. I really appreciated a lot of the detail, the world description, and the generation of many of the characters. I especially liked how some characters were killed, and I mourned for them. I loved the characters, and the author had them die because that was the most likely scenario. There wasn't a magical escape available. However, I found there to be some un-nameable literary element that made it dificult to read sometimes. It could very well have been a combination of the scenery, grammar, and word selection, but I can't put my finger on it. This detracted somewhat from my appreciation of the story.
This was a fun book, and I got into it pretty quickly. It was predictable, but comfortably predictable (events lead to something expected). This worked very nicely for the story line. This first book of the series got me interested in reading the rest of the series, so that should say something.

Spectre's Rating
Minus one wizard for taking just a little too long. Minus one wizard for some undescribable element of the literary nature that made me feel moderately uncomfortable.
