Spectre's Review
>mmrrr. . .< Ol' tyranist coined that sound of utter and complete apathy. I really enjoyed the change from my usual
stuff (I'm a military scifi kind of guy). For the first third of the book, I found the sociological approach to science
fiction quite interesting. Too bad it got REAL old. No plot, no excitement, no NOTHING. I hate to offend John Barnes,
his writing style really is quite superb, and the John Berkey-ish artwork was really fascinating, but this book reached
new heights of suck-itude (another term coined by tyranist) in the late stages of the book. I can't recommend it, unless
you really AND I MEAN REALLY into sociology. Prehaps if your into a 500 page in-depth analysis of artwork, you may also
find it somewhat engaging. As for me, I'll take L.E. Modesitt's non-military scifi any day.
