Face of the Enemy
Author: Richard Fawkes
Year: 1999
Abstract:
The Remor, an unknown alien species, is waging a merciless war against humanity. They come out of nowhere, strike hard and
fast, leaving nothing but death and destruction when they disappear. The Interstellar Defense League, outnumbered and
outgunned, is all that stands between the Remor and human extinction. A desperate plan is put into motion that will give the
humans the information they need to find out who, or what, the enemy is. With this knowledge, they may be able to stave off
the enemy and preserve humanity.

Spectre's Review
Military sci-fi at its best. There is a great deal of action, and there are really only a couple of points in the book where
I got tired of waiting around for something to happen. This is the first book I've read from Richard Fawkes, and I must say
I'm quite impressed. Fawkes has a knack for making the reader see the viewpoints and opinions of the characters. One of my
favorite parts is where this jerk of a scientist first encounters the Chugeni natives, and comments on how he's afraid they're
going to start sniffing each others' butts. I grew into Anders Seaborg, one of the soldiers fighting for the IDL
(Interstellar Defense League). Not that I could really relate to the guy (it's been a while since I've been out in space
shooting up aliens), I just liked the way the character was presented. The technology is nicely portrayed. I felt a little
uncomfortable with some of the invented terms and phrases. I also had a hard time with some of the space combat tactics.
There were several different governments, each having a certain attitude which Fawkes does a very good job of maintaining
consistency. This book is a great ride. It ends in such a way that leads to a high possibility of a successful series.
