tyranist's Review
I noticed something while reading this book that I don't think I noticed in the first one. In retrospect, I believe it was there, but I
didn't notice it while I was reading. Ms. Rowling has a marvellous gift for detail that even though it is consequential leads you on anyway.
More than once I noticed something that wasn't really furthering the plot but added volumes to the atmosphere and character of the story.
As it all goes rushing by, there are so many little things that make it all the more real for how fantastic the environment already is.
Once again this book fascinates endlessly. I read it in a single day and when I did manage to put it down, found myself picking it back up
again shortly. Too bad I don't have the third volume close at hand or I might be through them tomorrow. On the other hand, that is probably
a good thing since I will hate having finished them and being forced to wait for another volume.
Spectre's Review
This one was slightly less predictable than the first, which was a good thing. I liked how several clues were left
about, and you would think one thing through most of the book, and then when it was finally explained, it made some
degree of sense. It was fun to see Harry continue his friendships, and make a couple new friends outside of his own
House.
My favorite thing about this book was the darkness of it all. I felt creeped out a couple of times by some of the
creatures (spiders mostly). I also liked how death came into the story. I know it's a book for kids, and as a kid, I
always liked creepy stuff. I would say this is somewhat better than the first, if you can get over how the author has
to tell the whole history of how Harry got to where he was.
