Spectre's Review
Loved it! I could see how it would be controversial at the time of publication. Heinlein's idea of a socialist future must have
grated on some nerves. It's kind of interesting, you compare Starship Troopers with Stranger in a Strange Land (published
just two years later) and you can't help but wonder, what the hell happened? Starship troopers was SO much better.
One of my favorite lines was when Rico is describing a piper practicing the bagpipes at boot camp, something along the
lines of: "It looked and sounded like the man was squeezing a cat in his arms while chewing on the tail". I thought that
was hilarious. When you read this (as you well should) pay attention to the moral philosophy discussed. There are a lot
of really good ideas. I loved the first person narative (I almost prefer that writing style, but not quite).
Spectre's Rating
A real butt kicker!
