Spectre's Review
The first book was the better of the two. I would probably put the first book in your permanent collection, but don't really
waste your time with the second one. Greg Bear's strength is in his ability to pull science fiction into every-day life.
That's why I really liked the Forge of God. Anvil of Stars was too slow, and a litany of other things that just didn't go well
with me. Like I said before, I hate it when people limit technology, and portray the speed of light as an absolute that
cannot be broken. The second book was so disappointing, it knocked the rating for the series down. One thing I did like
in the second book, though, was the different technologies used. There were some pretty cool ideas presented, and if you
can be patient with the long read, you'll be rewarded with some pretty fascinating ideas.
