Malien
The Malien and Femalien inhabit the first twin of the double worlds of Valance.  They live deep under the surface of their world, although this was not always so.  When the Thuldans came to Valance they found evidence of an extinct civilization.  From what they could tell it had been that way for about 200 years.  After a period of time the Thuldans came to find that the Maliens still did exist but under Valance in complex tunnels and caverns.

It seems that there were two different (but very similar) species of maliens that once inhabited Valance, the surface dwellers and the subterranean dwellers.  The surface dwellers were wiped out by the war loving "under-dwellers".  Once the surface dwellers were gone the under-dwellers began to make war on each other and have since become a very suspicious and blood thirsty race of sentients.

Once the maliens discovered the Thuldans existence upon their world, the old battle against the surface dwellers began anew once again.  Despite the clear advantage the Thuldans had in the way of superior technology they found that the maliens had another power.  Maliens were masters of magic.  They could get around a lot of the Thuldan defenses with the spells they could cast.  At first the Thuldans thought that Psionics were in use, but their mindwalkers found only rare usage of those mind powers.  Only a small percentage of maliens are users of magic (primarily the femaliens) but those that did were very powerful indeed.

The Thuldans found that the maliens had entered  the PL3 and thus were able to easily destroy the surface dwellers whom still were only PL2.  The maliens had another secret that slowed down the Thuldan technological might and aided in the destruction of the surface dwellers.  The maliens have a primitive armor that actually is incredibly resistant to all forms of damage.  It is made from the exoskeleton of a large, subterranean insect called a Tuk-tuk.  The armor is very light and very strong.  Use stats:

Chitin Armor,  skill: Armor Op, AP: +1, type: G, LI/HI/En: 2d4/2d4/2d4+2, hide: +3, mass: 5, avail: Con, cost: 5000 (to Malien).

Description:  Maliens are humanoid in form and stand from 1.5-1.9m tall.  They have pale skin with intermittent grey splotches and large pale eyes.  Maliens have a soft ridge that runs up their back and around their head.  It is absent on the femaliens.  They have only ear holes and a large flat nose (more pronounced on the femaliens).  They are agile and able warriors, frequently use magic, and a very few have mindwalking abilities.

There are no known mutant maliens

Encounter:  Malien are a vicious and war-like species.  Any encounter with a malien is likely to result in an attack or if the maliens belive they are at a disadvantage they will sneak away.  They like to use spears, swords, flintlock firearms, and of course magic.

Habitat/Society:  Valance is about as close to earth's climate as one can have it, except for the dimmer starlight.  The maliens prefer to live underground.  They have small scattered cities built in large caverns.  They carve their homes out of the living stalactites and stalagmites.  All maliens owe fealty to a ruling family.  The most powerful family rules the city.  Cities are independent of one another and frequently war amongst each other.  Maliens or femaliens can rule, it is not gender specific.
