HISTORY of CORC

CORC was initiated 1995 as a way for members of religious communities to be advocates for social justice. We believe that by working together for change we can help all people, especially those living in poverty.

C0RC continues to grow. We curently consist of 18 religious communities in Utah representing 179,000 members.

CORC works for constructive change on issues affecting low income people by educating congregations regarding those issues and enlisting clergy, congregations and individuals to get involved.

CORC is a vehicle by which religious communities in Utah are making a difference. (top)

GRASSROOTS ACTIVITIES:

 

• Educate members of local faith communities to understand CORC issues and act to effect positive change.
• Meet with local House and Senate representatives to inform and educate them about CORC concerns.
• Coordinate annual denomination days during state legislative session.
• Provide faith communities with newsletter updates on CORC issues and activities.
• Add local focus to statewide and national issues.
• Educate Utah's congressional delegation in Washington, D.C. about local impact of national legislation.
• Write letters to the editors of local newspapers. (top)

SOCIAL JUSTICE: Low-income and affordable housing for all persons and families is a responsibility of government, business and the entire community. Child care, financial help with job training and career development are essential for families to live well.

The Decency Principles advocate fair wages, health benefits and affordable housing for all persons and families.

Taxes should be just. The more you make the more you should pay. "Progressive" taxation is fair to all!
