How? No one is suprised to learn that I can afford
to give away a few burritos every other week. |
When? That's an easy one-----every other sunday
after the lifts close since 1995 (TEAM BURRITO was conceived during september's
trail crew session at Brighton Ski Resort). |
Who? The "who" is adequately answered
on the riders page. Watch them hit the hits and spin the tricks in the
TEAM BURRITO Slideshow. |
Where? Usually at the Taco Bell on 20th east and
70th south in Salt Lake, though the team exists anywhere alpine skiers
or snowboard skiers chase the cold white deep. |
What? "What" is often the preface to
"why"- "You what?" "I sponsor a snowboard/ski
team." "What?" "I give them a burrito every other week
in exchange for their participation in the most inclusive of social organizations:
TEAM BURRITO." "Why?" |
Why, indeed? Recognition. All of those deserving
athletes who ride like hell, yet receive no formal acknowledgment of their
achievements were due for some reward-----some sponsorship. I am not in
a position to give away any snowboards or clothes or condos, but I can
provide my crew with the most durable of Taco Bell entrees, a bean burrito.
Did it freeze in your pocket? Did it get squished under your climbing rack?
Has it been in the car all day? No matter what happens, it will remain
a bean burrito. A hard shell taco will fail and crumble into a taco salad
long before a bean burrito will feel any pressure; they are also on the
value menu, a key element when sponsoring any sort of team. I saw an opportunity
to bring my alpine skiing friends and my snowboard skiing friends together
in a safe, non-confrontational environment. I also wanted a gallery for
my stunning photos of the Team. For these and other related reasons, I
formed TEAM BURRITO. |
I hope that TEAM BURRITO remains above the petty
equipment struggles on integrated mountains, that its riders continue to
double the speed and ride like hell and that in a world with very little
on which to count, we can expect TEAM BURRITO to inspire good will and
free burritos on the mountains of every nation.
