POWDER

Stars: Jeff Goldblum, Mary Steenburgen. Rated PG-13 for profanity.

When his grandparents die, an albino is found living in their house. Possessed with immeasurable intelligence and electrical powers, the boy, nicknamed Powder, seems to be the fulfillment of Einstein's predictions about the future of mankind. At once admired, feared, and despised for his abilities, Powder just doesn't seem to fit in. Befriended by a pair of adults (Jeff Goldblum, Mary Steenburgen), he finds the outside world an ugly, hostile place.

Although not completely successful in creating the magical quality that the film-makers were shooting for, "Powder" is an interesting diversion. More of a fable than a movie, it's a story that moves one to reflect on the still barbaric nature of mankind.
