L.A.P.D. Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) is called in by the FBI to help with a high-profile case involving the kidnapping of the Chinese consulate’s daughter. Unfortunately, his assignment is merely to keep Detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan), fresh from Hong Kong at the consulate’s request, away from the FBI’s investigation. Naturally, this doesn’t sit well with either detective so they team up to start an investigation of their own into the matter. Although their styles clash, the two find that together they can accomplish more than either one alone.
Do you like your action movies with a bit of sass and a sly wit? If so, "Rush Hour" may be your cup of tea. Chris Tucker, he of the annoying voice, is occasionally quite funny and Jackie Chan manages to amuse as well. The stunts are well choreographed and show, to a lesser extent than some of his other films, Chan’s peerless expertise in hand-to-hand combat. What seems, at first glance, to be a misguided coupling of talents works surprisingly well and is liable to give the "Lethal Weapon" franchise a run for its money if the movie spawns sequels. Light-hearted, but somewhat light on action, "Rush Hour" is a fun little movie that won’t tax your brain.
