"Titanic" is hands down the best movie of 1997. Instead of tiring you out, its 3 hour 15 minute length will leave you wishing there was even more of this great movie. At the heart of the drama is the romance between a well-bred young woman (Kate Winslet) and the unrefined fellow (Leonardo DiCaprio) who convinces her not to jump ship in the middle of the ocean. But then destiny steps in and the characters we have come to care about are thrust into the middle of a harrowing ordeal as the ill-fated luxury-liner, recreated here in all its decadent glory, hits an iceberg and begins its gradual journey towards a watery death.
"Titanic" is at once both the biggest spectacle of the year and the most moving. Although it features mind- blowing special effects, they never overshadow the warmth of the love story. DiCaprio and Winslet shine brightly in their roles as star-crossed lovers. But what really makes the film powerful is its stunning portrayal of the big ship’s demise followed closely by the deaths of hundreds of passengers who were dumped into the icy sea. This haunting sequence will stay with you long after the film ends. So it is without hesitation that I call for you to treat yourself to the best in American film-making. Treat yourself to "Titanic".
