In "Village of the Damned", an entire New England town is rendered unconscious by a strange shadow that passes over the land. When they awaken several hours later, everything seems to be just fine. But what they come to discover in the weeks ahead is that several women in town can trace their pregnancies back to that fateful day. Realizing that something strange is going on, the government steps in to assess the matter. Although the Feds will pay for any of the affected women to have an abortion, the monthly premium they offer to those who bring their pregnancies to term is substantial.
The ten children conceived during the unusual incident are all born at the same time, although one of these is stillborn and whisked away by the government liaison (Kirstie Alley). The other children, all of whom have platinum blonde hair and intelligence beyond their years, grow up normally. Normally, that is, except for strange psychic powers that they use to kill those who would harm them or stand in their way. Only one man (Christopher Reeves) is willing to stand up to them and he alone has the ability to withstand their peculiar powers.
"Village of the Damned" is a pathetic excuse for a horror film. It does not contain one single scene that will come as a surprise to anyone. This is strictly by-the-numbers film-making. As Gump might say, hokey is as hokey does.
